  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Lincoln Electric 225 Precision TIG Welding Machine

Just put 2 or 3 hours on the machine welding aluminum at >130 amps (mostly at 145) AC on the dedicated 40 amp circuit that I'd put in the shop for it (but it was more convenient for the MIG to be plugged into). F'ing thing ran like a champ. No duty cycle issues. I changed the position that I...

Lincoln Electric 225 Precision TIG Welding Machine

That's actually the video I'm referring to - it's on Primeweld's website as an advertisement for the machine. I was just out testing the machine (to ensure it's in good shape to sell) - I hadn't run this one on aluminum yet so I did a 9" lap weld on some 1/4" that's been sitting around - 150...

Lincoln Electric 225 Precision TIG Welding Machine

The research on how to get the best performance out of the welder is done in Cleveland - I have no clue where electrical components are made but where they are made doesn't affect the welding parameter tech... I checked out the Primeweld welder ($825USD) and watched the video... I don't think...

Lincoln Electric 225 Precision TIG Welding Machine

40% duty cycle at 130 amps doesn't seem like it would have a large impact on most users. The air-cooled torches need a break and I don't recall ever going past ~102A welding with 3/32" rod. Keep in mind that at 110 amps duty cycle is 60% - I'm not an electrical engineer or anything, but I'd be...

Lincoln Electric 225 Precision TIG Welding Machine

I'm consider selling my TIG machine so that I can upgrade. I bought it in about 2014 and it sat in a box until 2018 (had no shop space at the time). It hasn't been heavily used as I tend to do more MIG welding than anything else. I'll throw in some tungsten and aluminum and steel welding rod...

    ThirtyOne Driver's projects

I went through a bunch of different instructions for it and you're correct @Susquatch, those are the "best" ones although I think that BB dropped a couple of pages off the back that are helpful (diagrams and parts lists for tail stock among other things). The closest thing I could find to...

Speaking of value... those Craftsman toolboxes I picked up for $140 ea aren't anything to write home about, but I think they'll get the job done. @PeterT - I'll try to take a better look when I have a chance... IIRC the CX709 manual references the source company in the first para. - hopefully I...

Yes @Susquatch the chip tray can be removed and reused on the "new" stand. Didn't intend on saying your stand needed the center legs @SomeGuy - I was just referencing the build and what my plan was. I'm off to Lowes to pick up a couple of tool boxes before I lose out on another sale...

    ThirtyOne Driver's projects

Considering these - the Craftsman is only 12" deep but I could build a frame/stand large enough to put a pair side-by-side; the Mastercraft is wide enough that I wouldn't do that. Craftsman is taller (27.xx" vs. 21.xx"). The flip up tops would be removed at the hinge and what would be used as...

Similar to this one... but add-in a center set of feet/support. My lathe sits directly on the Busy Bee stands; the stands have spots to put levelling feet in but I haven't done it yet. The planning process around this project is aimed at the tool storage portion of the solution although I...
