  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area.     Anyone else using a voltage step-up (boost) VFD to run 575v motors?

    If I'm not mistaken the general rule of thumb is that a motor should not be run at voltages beyond +/- 10% of motors rated voltage. Otherwise the life of the motor will be reduced...

    I have to admit I prefer Mitutoyo micrometers and have just as much Mitutoyo stuff. So maybe not a fanboy or a Starrett junkie. Someone should do a poll just for laughs and giggles. How many Starrett tools do you have?

    I believe the softer polyurethane foam is the dreaded disintegrating foam often used by Mitutoyo. EVA is a little harder and more durable.

    I've been using EVA foam interlocking floor mats. They are about 2 foot square. Got a whole slew of them from Princess Auto a couple of years ago when they were only about $5 for a package of 4. Don't see them at PA any more but someplace like Walmart might still have a good deal on them.
