  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Here's a view of my much less sophisticated half-assed effort on cast iron scales. I just slopped on some black Tremclad over the thoroughly cleaned scales and wiped off the excess.

    Northern lights at Canada's far south!

    Here in Hamilton at first it was mostly cloudy. Around 2:30 it started to clear and some aurora were visible but the light pollution is so bad here they just appeared grey. The colors were washed out.

    This also surprised me. I was watching the moon cover more and more of the sun until it seemed to cover the whole thing, but still it was not very dark. Then suddenly when the dark hit it was stunning.

    I would have to say you don't really experience a solar eclipse until you see the totality. At totality everything goes dark. You can look directly at the sun at totality naked eye and see the dark disk of the moon blocking it. It is really surreal. I can understand why in the distant past...

    HOLY CRAP!!! TOTALLY AWESOME!!!! The clouds broke up at my place just in time! Totality only lasted a couple of minutes here in Hamilton but it was incredible!
