Talk me off of the edge…. How green is the grass really?

I think I’ll offer a different perspective. I think you need to decide what’s important to you, do you enjoy making old tools work and making the things you need for them, or would you rather work on your project’s? With a young family my shop time is limited, and I’ve discovered old iron is...

    Colchester Triumph help

Thanks for that , I was searching using the iec 60947 and wasn’t getting anywhere. I should of mentioned he used a 3hp single phase motor. He gave me a very good and thorough explanation of why he chose 3hp, but I can’t recall enough of it to repeat the reasons.

    Colchester Triumph help

I posted low quality photos, you really can’t make anything out on them. I’ll try posting them again.

    Colchester Triumph help

I wasn’t sure where to post this but figured I’d start here. A while back I posted about a Colchester triumph for sale in NS. I went to look at it and probably against the advise of more knowledgeable folks, I ended up buying it. The owner had converted it to a single phase motor. The...

Another ELS build in the works

I’ve decided to add an ELS to my CX709 13x24 lathe. I realized it’ll be a while before I can replace it as I’d rather add a mill first. I’ll update the thread as I make progress. I‘ve ordered one of John‘s (from the forum) kits and now need to decide on electronics. Electronics are completely...

Help with threading on a cx709

The compounds around 30 degrees. I don’t really Trust the scale on it and don’t have a decent angle finder. I’ll adjust it slightly and see if things improve. I had initially set The scale at 30°, but eventually realized it needs to read 60° on my scale to put the compound at the right...

Help with threading on a cx709

Thanks to everyone, especially David_r8. As with most problems, it was user error. I was reversing the lead screw to back out, instead of reversing the machine. I knew I was inducing back lash, but I thought that’s how it was done. Things get overlooked between you tube and actually doing it at...

Help with threading on a cx709

Those pictures are all from reversing out. I think the gears are tight, I’ll double check when I go back out to the garage.

Help with threading on a cx709

I’ve been trying to single point thread on my cx709. I picked a 16tpi thread to practice with because that’s what I plan to cut in the future. I keep running into the issue of the threads moving for lack of a better term. The first pass is fine, matches the thread pitch gauge. 2nd pass is...
