    A question of oil.

I'm liking Fuchs oils these days. I buy Way oil and Gun Drill oil from them, though 20L pails is smallest quantity they sell. Distributor / dealer in Edmonton, Burnaby iirc. Must admit I used chainsaw bar oil as a way oil for several years and don't really see any difference other than dye color.

    Tail Stock Spindle Repair

Just a FYI: A few Years ago I bought a MT3 reamer for just that purpose. IIRC, it wasn't all that bad for price (just in case you didn't know they existed).

    Multifix clones ?

Got a follow-up email from the ebay seller I dealt with. He told me that "Bell Machinery" in Vancouver is a dealer for them. I have no idea whether it would be cheaper to go with Ebay or Bell Machinery.

Follow-up, contacted "Sino-SD" ebay seller. Guy was quite helpful and seemed genuinely "keen" to be sure that I was ordering the right stuff ( I already had a "B series" Multifix set but wanted to add 3 more tool holders). Several messages back and forth, finally sent photos of what I had, from...

Small batch heat treaters or HT Stock

4140 HTSR (heat treated, stress relieved) is pretty common, bigger suppliers usually have stock, not too bad for price. 28~32 Rockwell, machines quite nicely. Big league metal supply places will normally supply mill certs. - though its also common that you've gotta buy a full bar - 17 ~ 24'...

    Headstock Alignment Factory Provisions.

Son worked several years for a major oil field C0., built their own drill rigs etc. They used to buy offshore pumps, blow off preventers etc. Job one was to strip them apart, re-bore all the bores and replace all bearings. Major castings / forgings were what they really bought them for, most of...

    Multifix clones ?

Well, I'll try Create Tool again. I had tried to order from them (several times) about a year ago. There was a thread on Practical Machinist (about a year ago) saying that the founder of Create Tool had died and the Company was no longer functioning. Their web site still functions though - I'll...
