  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Tips/Techniques using emery on a lathe

Thanks for posting this. I had been warned/trained about the left hand file, but never heard or considered the emery cloth. I was doing it exactly wrong just a week or so ago. As for the pee pads - another good tip. (mbond’s dog obviously knows the pads cost $$. Why dirty a nice clean pad...

I have found the anvil, and hammer for a drop hammer

Those might leave some hammer marks that’d be tough to buff out….

    A question for the farmers.

I have discovered a useful tool for identifying weeds. Take a photo and if you have the Google App, you can do an image search using your photo. If you’ve got a good photo, you can get an immediate response. I’m sure it can and does mis-identify, but it shows pictures of of the potential...

what's the best short used car from circa 2012-14

I have a 2010 Fit. My daughter has a 2009. Terrific little cars. Would not want to x Canada in it (buzzy & underpowered), but it gets great mileage, is reliable (tires, filters & oil, one head light bulb and I just had the AC recharged). I’m 6’3”, 250 lbs and ‘Fit’ in, no problem. And the...

Machine Considering Buying a King 1236ML Looking for Opinions

I had a 12x36 King in my KMS shopping cart two days ago. It was $1000 off, then another $250 off for a Canada Day special. All-in with taxes it was under $6000. Today it’s almost $6k before taxes. Should have pulled the trigger. $4k for a good used one seems pretty reasonable.

    CA-AB Welding Gas

This sounds like a good deal. I have a similar arrangement with KMS in BC. Except, I own the cylinder. They refill ny cylinder. After 10 years, I have to have it hydro’d and inspected. My acetylene bottle is similar to your deal - I paid for the bottle, but exchange the empty bottle for a...

Looking for metal worker near Nanaimo

I think the OP has moved on. He hasn’t provided clarification to any questions. And; I have an XR650L. I’ve never heard of a front sprocket that was too wide. The OEM sprockets are notoriously too narrow and they wobble, eventually ruining the splines on the output shaft, which means a full...

10 little things we hate about the internet.

This morning I received an email notice from a free trade magazine I subscribe to. I clicked on a link to an article I thought might be interesting. Got a pop up asking if I agreed to share my information with their 886 partners… I didn’t think the article would be so interesting after all. I...

    Brazing Cast Iron

The good news is that a replacement part can be bought. Not cheap, but at least it is available. And at $300+ per hour to repair, I suspect that US$650 plus shipping could end up being a good deal. If it were me, I’d double check on the availability of the replacement. If it is available...
