  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Playing around with Fusion 360

Yeah Fusion requires a bit of foresight to make assemblies manageable unfortunately. One tip for top-down modelling assemblies is instead of creating new parts in the main assembly file, create and save a new part in it's own file instead, and then drag it into the assembly (even if the part...

CA-AB Source for Lead Free Pewter Ingots and cheap hotplate

Alright, I got a quote back from sculpture supply, about $70 shipped. That's a bit higher than I was hoping to spend, so I think I'll peruse my local value village tonight LOL. Unrelated, anyone in calgary that have a 550F capable hotplate I could borrow for beer or cash? LOL

CA-AB Source for Lead Free Pewter Ingots and cheap hotplate

Hello! I want to make a custom head-badge for my bicycle, and I am planning on going with molten pewter in a high-temp silicone mould. Does anyone know of somewhere I can get lead-free pewter? Preferably in Calgary? I'd prefer to use something that has a known chemical composition then going to...

    North America Electrically conductive adhesives

I have used anisotropic conductive film and tape at work, but only for electrical signals, I don't think it could handle more than a few milli-amps. We purchase 3M branded stuff from digi-key, maybe they have another product that could work for you?

Thank you! There are a couple factors, but for me I wanted to try brazing and I like the look of brazed dropouts so that was it really for me haha. Brazing also lets you use thinner walled tubes, so my chain & seatstay tubes are only ~0.024" [0.6mm] wall thickness at the dropout end, and its...

Replacement Gear for Craftex CT089 13x24 Lathe

I may have discovered why the lathe had a plastic gear. This thing is LOUD as hell with the new steel gear if I run it over 1000 rpm LOL

I made a handlebar! This style of bar is called a bullmoose bar, and is sort of neat because it is integrated into the stem. I missed pics of a couple steps. The bar material is 7/8" x 0.049" 4130 from McMaster-Carr. It ended up being cheaper to buy from mcmaster even with shipping then it was...

Replacement Gear for Craftex CT089 13x24 Lathe

It just got really hot. It's a cheap contactor and its probably 20 years old so it probably didn't like the 30 minutes of continuous use. This is actually my work's lathe so I got the ok to buy a name brand contactor locally so I was able to replace it this afternoon. I ran it for an additional...
