Martin, I know you can do all the planning but still little things can pop up. I have my big thickness planer on giant casters. Once in motion it wants to stay in motion…

    New to me colchester lathe

Looks like you are on top of the challenges. The wiring on my Triumph was completely stripped out and replaced with a 5hp single phase, I am thinking of going VFD as I don’t get the low or high speed like the two speed original, plus being able to overdrive in a bit for higher carbide speeds...

    Blast room

You need a 7.5 hp power 2 stage like I own to do decent blasting with the amount of air required. I have a large blast cabinet and vacuum system and the compressor just keeps up. Keep in mind you are fighting moisture as well, I have a refrigerant air dryer and pellets dryer just before the...

    New to me colchester lathe

Awesome, thanks for the information! Looks like your Colchester is cleaning up nicely. One guy posted on another forum the inside bore taper at 0.060 per inch aprox. which is different than any MT. Now I have my DRO set up I can double check, run an inch in with a test indicator.

    New to me colchester lathe

Thanks for posting your progress, I have been following along. I have been setting up mine as well, just adding a DRO. Is there any chance you machine came with the headstock taper adapter? Seems like it’s a special Colchester one and would be amazing to have the dimensions to make one. Thanks!

Yes it is a “gasket” probably the clearances can be controlled that way. All the rebuild kits have replacements

    Air motor repair

Hi Peter, Thanks for your help! I think the 0.001 thickness is important or the air bypasses the air veins over the top and bottom. I was doing so poking around and found McMaster Carr has something that thin available and I will be in the States next week. I like your method for cutting out...

    Air motor repair

I am hoping someone more familiar with gasket material can help me. The seals are 0.001 in thickness for the caps use some sort of Mylar? I was hoping to make the new seals as the rebuild kits are $$$. I am setting up an inexpensive mixer for industrial finishes, yes it will br grounded. Thanks!
