  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Tool Tooling up a milling machine

If guys are considering the Rego-Fix secuRgrip collets, I wouldn't throw your money away with that system unless you see the value behind them. They are not as good as they seem to be... ER collets work great for most endmills up to 5/8 in a hobby environment, as long as you purchase quality...

    Tormach or Hass

My choice would be the HAAS VF2 as well. Years ago, I dealt with a sales fella at HAAS ( Neil Sideway ) I'm thinking it must be 16-18 years ago or so now. Lost contact with him over the years, not sure if he is still around. If you stray away from the HAAS, Which, I would encourage you to do...

    DavidR8's shop shenanigans

Never hurts to take a step back before taking that new next step forward. The world is changing very quickly these days. I won't say too much here... Personally, I think you made a good choice when it comes to looking at smaller machining equipment for home hobby adventures.

Tool Tooling up a milling machine

As Degen mentioned above, once you start with solid carbide/indexable on the mill, it will be hard to go back to HSS and coolants. Within the next few weeks, I will be changing up tooling distributers. Will have some carbide em's, drills and taps that may interest some folks on the forum. This...

There's a good reason why you stay out of the dyno cell when doing a full power run!

Do you remember the Olds 350 DX engines ? If so, you probably seen some crazy diesel explosions. The DX blocks make for a much stronger gas block, but hard to find these days. Did you blow them all up @Susquatch ?

There's a good reason why you stay out of the dyno cell when doing a full power run!

Every Dyno run, be it engine or chassis. We were still in the proto type stages. You would need more than a helmet and chest protection to enter the room haha. I built a 403 Olds block and lost it to detonation back in the day, wasn't pretty. Just expensive and cool to watch haha.. Needless to...

Product Princess Auto Universal Sliding Heavy Duty Angle Grinder Stand

I don't own 1 but I think they would be useful in a small hobby environment. Safer than free cutting IMO but with a catch. If your cutting up wide stock to its capacity limit then I would look into something else. I would think it could be potentially dangerous. I would probably want to keep...

Putting a little metal back into the over sized pulley bore.

Looks like someone likes to stay away from the Dutch pins haha. I with you on that 1. Nice work on the press fit the tap went well. On a side note, I think my warden is a secret agent for the WEF...... My net worth has been dropping since I asked where the snow brush went in the truck...things...

What did you do for a career and would you pick it again?

IMO, This is the best advice your going to hear. No better time then the present to begin paving your avenues to success, continue adding to the brains tool box compartment. Don't be afraid of failure in any event. I recall hearing my father tell me a few years back... Even when, the stocks...
