    Center drill or spot drill

Harry taught us to use center drills. Fred reinforced that lesson. I never heard of a spotting drill before joining these internet fora. They were cheap, so I bought an assortment of sizes just to see what all the buzz was about. I guess I'm lazy, I still just use a stub drill...

    Small Facemill

I have several milling cutters that use the APKT1135 inserts, starting at 10mm and up to 30mm. They get used a lot, especially the 20 and 25 mm. I also have a 40mm that uses the APKT1604 inserts, but by the time I get to that size I prefer to use my 50mm facemill that uses the SEKT/SEHT inserts...

Power failures pick the worst time, without fail

As long as there isn't that 10 or 15 second lag while the generator comes up. Otis invented the elevator safety brake in 1852, there've been many variations and improvements since then.

Tips/Techniques Fly Cutter with indexable carbide cutter

Yep. I really like my 2 in. facemill that uses the SEHT/SEKT inserts. It will really move some metal and leaves a very good finish. It will take .100 DOC, but if I'm looking for an excellent finish, I still use a fly-cutter.

cold cut saw $180 Edmonton, AB

I magnified the picture and it is a very fine tooth cold-saw blade. Smokin' deal if you have the need or desire. I made my bones on a Brobo 350 with dual air vises. Broke a few blades (3 to be exact) learning the ins and outs. I didn't tell Fred about the third one until I had the money to pay...

    Tips of the Trade

Quick and easy expanding collet stop I needed a second collet stop recently. A quick survey of my 5c collets revealed that very few of them were internally threaded. Expanding collet stops are expensive (and I'm cheap), so I just made one.

    My First Dickson Auto-Retractor

I was contacted by a gentleman from the U.K. who has a Dickson S1 toolpost and was interested in an auto-retractor. I tried to talk him into a straight-shank model, but he was having none of it. I found some aftermarket holders on eBay and ordered a couple. Being from India, I was hoping they...
