I managed to get the Y axis done. Machined (I am using this term loosely cause I'm not a machinist and machinist tradesman would probably shake their head at my work) the new lead screw to fit the rest of the old parts. Including using my lathe (now with a new motor and VFD) to cut the 3/16" key...

The cross feed nuts were badly worn so I ordered up new nuts thinking that it's regular acme. Nope, British acme is different. Ordered up matching threaded rod. Machined the first nut to press fit in. One more pass on the lathe to finish the second and the smoke rolls out of my lathe motor. The...

Took the head off to start cleaning and a new mount for the 1HP 3 phase motor. Still can't find any manufacturer name on it. The bolts are all standard thread but the heads are some weird size, not standard, not metric. I'm thinking it's British (the old motor was made in England) and the bolts...

    Mystery Mill

I stumbled across this milling machine. Owner was moving, so stopped by and asked if they wanted to sell it or move it. They hadn't used it since they got it 10 years ago, so it was time to go. There is no name on it any where. There's a vendor tag on it from Federal Machinery in Toronto, a...

    New guy from Belleville Ont

Hello all, I've been playing with metal for a long time. I wouldn't consider myself a machinist, just a guy who owns a bunch of tools and likes playing with cars. I have a CNC plasma cutter, Standard-Modern lathe and recently acquired mystery milling machine. Will start another thread for it as...
