Rebuilding a 10" Standard Modern Utilathe

The nut is cast iron and although there is some wear in the middle of the lead screw the threads in the nut are sharp and paper thin at the peak of the threads so the nut has taken most of the wear. The pic below is after a couple of strokes with a hacksaw.

Rebuilding a 10" Standard Modern Utilathe

The original nut is cast iron and I have some high quality cast iron left over from the modifications on the tailstock but you're saying I should use bronze for the final product? I ordered the cheapie tap from amazon just in case and now that I have 2 viable options I think I may give the...

The cast iron stationary nut is quite worn so I thought I would make a new one, the rod is a left handed 9/16 x 8 tpi...

Little Machine Shop Special of the Week

We are all big boys here, right? We can handle a few ruffled feathers can't we? Catering to the lowest common denominator is worse than not liking what others may say, I think.

The bolts holding it the wall look a little undersized for the job, I'd beef those up. Better safe than sorry.

CA-BC Amazon.ca vs direct from Accusize?

I've spent close to a $1000 at KBC this year, I p/u and order on Monday and realized I ordered a 5/16" threaded handle instead of the 3/8" handle I need. Emailed KBC that day and asked if I could come in and swap it for the handle I need, they said they will have to refund me the money I paid...
