  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Stick Welding- what’s your favourite rod?

I never had troubles with the breaker tripping. The cable was sized correctly for a 30A breaker but I don’t know if it was sized for voltage drop. My welder is a multi tap transformer type, so it would be pretty easy to pull the covers off to see what voltage it’s got under load. I’m unlikely...

Stick Welding- what’s your favourite rod?

I gave up using 7018, even dropping down to 3/32 I couldn’t get my 100A welder to consistently keep the arc lit. I’ve got a nice big box for when I get a welder with more capacity…

Stick Welding- what’s your favourite rod?

Most of my welds were about 1” in lenght. The large ones 2”. I wasn’t concerned with stopping and starting on a weld since the project was also a “start learning to weld”. What’s really great is that since I started buying metalworking tools (Lathe, Mill etc…) the excitement of that has kept the dogs at bay over their usual winter appearance. Better to buy...

Tips/Techniques Workshop Organization- things that have made a difference for you

He must get some work done? It appears he’s running a business? But I agree, the level of ”decoration” does seem to suggest that running a successful business would be difficult. I was wondering if the business was just a way to get a tax write off on his tools? Of course there is the saying...

Radon gas mitigation in our home.

Below are our radon levels for the last year. If I recall correctly before I installed a fan our levels were over 300 based on a certified 3 month test. Two things I don’t like about the AirThings Wave is that: - It detects when I’ve used VOC’s in the workshop… - There isn’t a mode to hide...

    Gage pins

I don’t like how some of the Starrett squares I have are not satin chromed. For the cost you’d think that they would be chromed and stainless.
