  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area.     I’ve got a feed system that I bought at auction even though it doesn’t fit my mill; price was quite good and I thought “I should be able to fit this up with a little surgery”. That’s my next mill project. But converting my wood bandsaw to metal duty is likely next in line. We’ll see.

    Oops! That was just fumble fingers. Should have said 1.5 HP. That would have been a game changer, for sure. Like when I installed my first DRO. That was truly game changing for me. Can’t imagine using a mill without a DRO now, although I did so for many months before installing that system...

    This project is basically complete. Works really well. The only thing left is to disassemble the new drive components and give them all a coat of paint. Wonder if I'll get around to that ;) Here's a pic of the final product.

    Here are the 2 boxes with the VFD attached. These are ready to be mounted and connected to the motor.

    Got the boxes fabbed, stuffed and installed. Here's a look inside the 'power box' onto which the VFD will be attached.

    Made some brackets to support the drive package and the control box. Both of those will have key-hole mounts, so that the entire drive package can be removed as a unit by only disconnecting the motor.

    The 18 does have terminals for a braking resistor, but in my testing I don't think it will be necessary. I set the deceleration rate to 3 sec and it very nicely winds down the spindle from full speed. It's fast enough that in the time between poking the stop button and picking up the collet...
