  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Metal lathe attachment (looks like most? of a steady rest)

Hmmm. Looking at the followers (not sure what to call the 'fingers'). They sure remind me of hydraulic roller lifters....

Are 1/4" fittings different for welding gas cylinders than for air lines?

Combustible gas fittings are typically LH thread. Acetylene, propane etc. Non-combustible gases (CO2, O2, Argon, Nitrogen etc) should be RH thread. Some threads are tapered NPT. They seal with the aid of thread sealant (Teflon tape, thread sealant). Other threads can be straight cut and...

    T-Slot Cutters

One key point in this; this “tee slot” is not a standard size. I’ll look again, but I could not find a tee cutter that matched the dimensions of the tee slot in the tool rest of my lathe (see the drawing I attached in the original post). All the t-slot cutters I found had either a too small...

    T-Slot Cutters

Thanks for the tip. KBC looks like a great resource - I knew there had to be a supplier in Canada somewhere! And searching for 'key cutter' gives me a better fit for depth and width of the bottom of the tee. ( I had tried searching for a key slot cutter previously, but what I found was held...

    T-Slot Cutters

I did a search here and it came back with zero results. If it has been discussed, please point me in the right direction... Otherwise: I'm looking to cut a t-slot. The slot I'm hoping to duplicate has a "TEE" section 1.156" wide (the bottom of the "T") by 0.218" deep. The throat is 0.750"...

Nicolas Correa Knee Mill, $1000, Abbotsford BC

Good catch, my bad. I ass-u-me that sellers only show me pictures of the machine they’re selling unless stated otherwise, not the other way around. I missed the distinction. I agree with everyone, that’s a terrific price on a beast of a machine. It’d cost me much more than that to pick it...

Tool Do I need a Machinist Clamping Set?

I spent 20 minutes test flying my milling machine. First thing I’ve learned is that clamping is paramount. Near as I can tell, there is no hope of creating a good product if it‘s moving. I bought one of the clamping kits shown in the original post. Unfortunately, after getting it home I...

    New guy Salmon Arm

Hello, from another Salmon Armen, Armite, Armian ? … guy from Salmon Arm. My gear is stone age compared to your Haas TL-1. As the Brits say, “nice bit of kit”. Serious hardware. I’m relatively new to the area, and I am amazed at the depth of local knowledge and skill w.r.t. machining, mill...

    Greetings … take 2

Thanks everyone. The ZX-25 has sparked some interest! I’ll get some pictures soon. It is very similar to the ZX25 that Janger posted. More primitive, with no variable speed drive, just move the belts. Somewhere between the Bolton ZX25 and this one...
