Steam Engine build in double scale?

I've built engines both larger and smaller than the original design. All have worked out fine. One consideration not mentioned so far (likely because it is os obvious) relates to fasteners. You may not be able to find "exact doubles" of the originals - just use what's close watching for...

Tips/Techniques A (mostly) Successful Investment Casting.

Very nicely done. You may not think it perfect but it sure looks good from here, especially given that it's been cast and not fabricated/machined.

    Oscillation/Vibration in lathe

Reminds me of a story from the development of the Rolls Royce Merlin engine ... apparently test engineers would check for detonation in an engine running in a test cell with a piece of metal between their teeth. Seems engineers were made of sterner stuff back then.

    1910 Anzani Y-Type

Thanks everyone for the kind feedback. PeterT - My standard answer to the usual questions about "what it does or will go into" is usually "nothing". It's amazing how many don't understand that it's about the journey and not the destination. Doesn't matter if I'm building something or going...

    Radial engine build

Excellent work. The old adage about changing one thing leads to 10 other revisions comes to mind ... In case you decide to purchase a propeller with a thicker and larger diameter hub, Falcon Propellers does some nice wooden props in a couple styles. (I've no connection, just a satisfied...

Installing a DRO on a Hartford Bridgeport Clone.

When I got the mill it was missing the original handle/knob for the manual quill feed (the one used when the quill drive is engaged). What you see is the replacement I made.

Installing a DRO on a Hartford Bridgeport Clone.

Ask away Susquatch … us Hartford guys need to look after each other. <grin>

Installing a DRO on a Hartford Bridgeport Clone.

For what it's worth, here are a few photos of my 3 axis DRO installation. These are "old fashioned" glass scales installed quite awhile back. Please excuse the lack of cleanliness - just finished work on 3 cast iron cylinders for the current engine project and that stuff gets everywhere...

    Radial engine build

Good looking and serviceable solution. I'm glad you found a pleasing way to do this.
