    T Bolts

Just took a few moments over lunch to begin to dissemble and clean the new to me Tida-4A lathe i picked up yesterday. Taking my time I removed the tailstock, set it aside and started wiping down the rest. I took a moment to remove the tool post and noticed that the bolts in the compound looked...

    Anvil...Forge...

Mike, that's a great tidbit of information on coal and its contents, I never thought about it having an affect on iron other than making a ton of heat. I've personally never done anything with a forge, but the other day I was given two rear leaf spring packs from a 1953 GMC grain truck. No plans...

Brian, that's fantastic info to pass along! I'm going to see if SAIT offers something similar. Thanks!

Sticky What Machines Do You have?

Glad to know my hunch on the price was accurate as a first time buyer of a lathe! I can almost guarantee it won't be that long before I find something I want to make that's too big.... Isn't that always the way it goes. It should serve me well, what I do is just stuff around the house for...

Sticky What Machines Do You have?

Just picked up a nice older lathe today off of Kijiji. Name is a TIDA-4A. Manufactured in 1979, as per the previous owner was used 2-3 times a year in 20 minute bursts over the last 15 years. Appears to be in great shape, came with hand fulls of tapers, tooling and the steady rest. Appears to be...

    Hi, I'm Matt from Calgary

Yes Eric you mention a good point. I remember pondering this once, and it still comes to mind. The only hesitation is trying to justify the using the metal while I can still lift it on my own. Haha. With metal being so hard to find without paying a fortune I guess I've always had the hang up...

    Anvil...Forge...

Hi Guys, the mention of a forge caught my eye. I'm no blacksmith, that's for sure, but I have seen a forge built from an old truck rim. I do mean a large truck, one piece, thick old metal. The bolt holes were plated over and the center hole was adapted for a piece of 2" pipe, plated over with a...
