  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    LED info for mill light

Bofobo: That is a diode. It will only allow current to flow from the black end to the end with the silver stripe. The two of them are separating your string of LED's into two sub-strings. Note that in your original image, that the black diodes are connected in opposite directions. On one half of...

    LED info for mill light

It is not a problem to cut the strip into segments (where it is designed to be cut), and wire them in parallel. It does not matter if they are wired as a star or as a long strip. As long as the + connection points are all wired together, and the - connection points are wired together and...

    LED info for mill light

I'll throw some technical information about LED's in here to try to confuse everybody: LED - Light Emitting Diode - Actually almost all diodes are light emitting. LED's are just diodes that are optimized to create light. Firstly, LED's are diodes. When current goes through them in the forward...

    Tig vs power panel

'fraid I'm not an electrician, so I really don't follow the electrical code rules. I'm just into electronics as well as machining, and I've built a bunch of stuff. It is all the same electrons, and most of the electrical code makes a lot of sense when you understand what the electrons want to...

    Tig vs power panel

Both conduits have easily removable covers on the LB's. Take them off and see what is inside. Turn off all the breakers in your garage panel and see if you still have power / lights anywhere possibly fed by the second conduit. Take the cover off your house panel and see what is connected to...

    Tig vs power panel

More likely (I would guess), is that you originally had a small service to the garage (probably without a sub-panel) that provided one 120V circuit or maybe two 120V circuits with a common neutral (the same as one 240V circuit). Then a larger 40A circuit was added that feeds the panel. In that...

    Tig vs power panel

PeterT: It is extremely likely that your in-house panel is labeled incorrectly. One set of 40A breakers is probably for the stove. The other may be for the garage. If you have an electric dryer there will likely be a pair of 30A breakers for that. It would be a very bad thing (both illegal and...

    Need a TIG! Any advice.

I have a 200A Firepower brand TIG from KMS. I am relatively pleased with it, but I'm just learning to TIG, so what do I know? I would also offer to let anyone come down and try it if you are interested in that model. Maybe I'd learn something!

How would you do it chuck back plate.

That is what I would do. By doing the second bit of machining while it is mounted on the spindle you guarantee that it will be concentric with the spindle. It is much better to mount it directly on the spindle than to mount it in another chuck, since there will errors in mounting it in any...

    14x40 lathe clutch issue

I don't think there will be a shear pin. That is the purpose of this clutch. If the feed torque is too high, it will slip by pushing the balls out of the v-grooves. The slip torque is set by the springs. If the springs are collapsed, you don't want to set the set screws in too far since it will...
