    Collet questions

Regarding the set-screw in an R8 spindle, when I worked for Fred and when I owned my shop, we always removed the set-screw. They aren't needed to hold the collet while tightening, they aren't sufficient to drive the collet if the taper slips and they can make it nearly impossible to get whatever...

    Product Facemill & Insert Rave

It's been a year since I bought this 50mm facemill. https://www.aliexpress.us/item/2255799996995364.html? It's seen quite a bit of use, milling mostly 4140HT and hardened lathe tools. I've been very happy with the performance of the cutter, but I've been absolutely astounded by the...

    Corner Rounding Endmills are Expensive

Yep, I took the bearing off, but all of the bits are exactly 1/2" diameter at the inside of the radius. Makes positioning easy.

    Corner Rounding Endmills are Expensive

and they're HSS. Round-over carbide router bits with 1/2" shanks are cheap. https://www.ebay.com/itm/394874424815 and effective.

    Tap Sockets/Drivers

That's one of a few places where the inch standard won out. Some import cars have/had wheels with 4x114.3 bolt pattern. Translated it turns out to be 4.5 BC. My favorite cars are the 4th generation Honda Civics. The rotor in the distributor is retained by an M3.5x.8 screw. While standing in...
