Using the built in levelling system.

Lathe stands are best bolted to the floor securely as level as you can get them. Keeping in mind, concrete floor are not the flatest surfaces around, so trying to level a bed lathe to within 0.02mm might be a litte difficult using shims between the concrete floor and the stand, even screw type...

Using the built in levelling system.

Well, if you like them, you use them. I don't like them, so I don't use them.

Tool A couple of power files.

Crook hands and elbows. Fingers fused and no elbow joint left, so, files, hammers, screwdrivers, etc, are very difficult and painful to use. Besides that, why use a hand file when you can get an electric one.

Tool A couple of power files.

I made these two power fies, to be used away from the shop where power is not available. The first was made from a block of Delrin, but the motor was too underpowered. It worked but tended to get very hot. The second was made from a lump of 10mm ally, using a bigger motor. Plenty of power...

    An appetiser, 74 TX650 rebuid.

Experiments with chain adjusters. The adjusters on the TX were rusted, so I decided to made some new ones. My first thought was to make snail cams, as they provide a means of aligning the wheels without resorting to the use strings and straight edges. But they, being quite large, were just...

    An appetiser, 74 TX650 rebuid.

I've done a number of mods for this bike, this is the permanent Magnet Aternator conversion I did. You can buy a kit, but the $$$ are frightening, so, I hunted around for stators and rotors that woud fit, bought a new stator and reg/rec for an XV and a rotor for a Banshee all for $130, then...

    An appetiser, 74 TX650 rebuid.

Wheels. Wheels can make a bike. The TX650 came fitted with alloy wheels, also included were a set of spoked wheels, so, they got the nod. They were in pretty crook shape, the PO obviously had no tyre levers, so used hammers, screwdriver and whatever else he had lying around. The results were...

    Bandaw coolant system.

I use coolant when cutting aluminium and I cut a lot of alumium, never had a problem with teeth gunking up. I setup the bandaw to cut steel square, but it still cuts square on aluminium. However, I do have a problem with teeth gunking up on end mills on the mill. Not so bad on two flute, but...

    Quick belt change mod.

I've never shared this mod before, never thought about it, but it may help someone.. My lathe has a V belt pulley drive and uses two belts: one for the lower three speeds the other for the top three speeds. I know there are a number of Asian bench top lathes that use a similar system, The...

    Lathe bed protector..

Yes it would, I tried a bit of plastic based stuff for the cover, but the warf tended to melt it's way in and get stuck, that was a dismal failure. The canva has worked particularly well, Probably not necesary to impregnate it with oil, I don't know as I've never tried it dry.
