Triple Spider Idea used to align barrels for chamber reaming

Personally, I'd like to see a Gunsmithing section here, maybe with the caveat of "keep it within bounds of what's legal and no squabbling over politics". I've known several very fine people that were both first rate machinists and very skilled gunsmiths.

Thanks for the replies - reaching in 1" is the challenge. Already tried HSS and its quite "chattery".

    small hole boring bar

Hole goes in the end of the tube (.313 OD x .243 ID x 36" long) need to increase ID to .246" and its important that the hole be parallel to the long axis of the tube too. Tried grinding down a .250" carbide endmill, nasty job, turned into a mess - I hate grinding / breathing that carbide dust -...

    small hole boring bar

Need to bore ~.246" hole x 1.000" deep into 4130 tube, concentric to the OD so lathe job. Thinking I need a carbide boring bar. Looks like ~$50 and 1~2 weeks from USA maybe $15 from China but I don't think they'll do the depth. Anyone else been down this rabbit hole ?

    Bridgeport Project

Kinda late to the party here but thought I'd show a couple pictures of a tool I made to get my spindle nose off - maybe it'll help someone next time. Just a little different pin wrench - gotta make it before you take the mill apart (or on your spare mill). Thick enough to get a big pipe wrench...

Just wondering: Do any / all of the industrial / high grade compressor tanks have a liner or epoxy coated interior, or stainless tanks ? I would have thought that some kind of epoxy coating of the interior wouldn't be that expensive to do ?

When to replace air compressor tank.....

"With such a huge danger to health compressor tanks would not only be "regulated" they would certainly have "explosives" sticker on them and stern warnings. It probably would be illegal to even have a compressor tank more then 10 years old. There would be stern regulations regarding testing...

When to replace air compressor tank.....

I believe there's several youtube videos - mostly tire explosions but I seem to remember seeing a couple of compressor tank explosions - look quite violent. When is the right time to replace, I really have no comment - just because I'm as guilty as anyone of putting off replacement for $ reasons...

    proper heat treatment

Just curious; I've done a bit of my own "seat of the pants" fire brick / tiger torch heat treating / tempering. Got the stuff hard but a terrible amount of scale. I've thought about buying or building a heat treat oven - I've wondered about purging with Argon - practical ?, prevent scale ?
