The only reason I switched to Fusion instead of using Solidworks was the price. I have an infinitely renewable Fusion license for $400 a year. I got rid of Solidworks a long time ago so can't really remember specifics about it now. The stuff I do isn't complicated enough to need any high end...
You should really watch a few youtube tutorials. It will make a big difference in your understanding. The advice Arbutus gave about forgetting everything and starting over is 100% correct. I switched from Solidworks to fusion and tried to use both for a while. I deleted Solidworks and just used...
I'll have a look in the scrap bin at work. There is usually some two conductor in there and sometimes 3 conductor. Twisted together to eliminate interference and insulated with teflon. It's leftovers from wiring aircraft so its really good quality.
A slab saw cuts the material into slices. I cut them to about 1/4" thick. The slab saw I use has a 16" diamond blade in it. Smaller and much larger ones are available. Then you cut the slab to size with a smaller saw called a trim saw. I don't have one of these yet.
It seems to be in fantastic condition. Really smooth operation and no backlash that I can see. I always though it was normal for a bench vise to to have a half turn or more of backlash in it. I'm going to be spoiled now.
I wandered through a pawn shop last week and noticed a small bench vise. I am looking for a bigger one but went over to have a look at it. Surprisingly to me it was a Bison vise made in Poland. Model PJWT-80. I consider this to be one of my best ever finds in a pawn shop and it was only $30. I...
I looked into ordering a grinder similar to a cabking. I just couldn't find anything that could handle 3 wheels on each side and was slow enough. I think a 3 phase motor with a VFD would be great.
I have a piece of 1" 304 stainless. It's what I'm going to use for the cabbing machine shaft. I can't see how 1018 wouldn't rust because the coolant used in a cabbing machine is water. I might get away with 1018 in my slab saw because the coolant is oil. The ideal solution would be to find out...
I have the shaft and it's a piece of 1" 304. It does seem to have about .002 of runout. Hopefully it will be ok. I has hoping to find a 1/2 HP motor but ended up with a 1 HP 3 phase one that I'm going to use.
I do have a 16" slabbing saw. If you get one I highly recommend putting it on a stand...
Nice: I plan on making one of these later this year. I bought a used set of wheels that were about 1/3 of life used. Do you know what the metal is that you used for the main shaft? I was planning on putting a bearing on each outboard end also so 4 in total. After that I need to make a trim saw.
I was thinking about doing something like that. I have easy access to aluminum cut offs. I'm on the road for work now so don't have access to the plans to be 100% sure about the bearing surface. I know for sure the crankshaft goes through the center bore. The rest just supports the bearing. From...
