  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    ELS Electronic Lead Screw Concept

I am not sure if it is of interest, or even helpful to your project, but an ELS project is discussed and developed on a YT channel - Clough42 - that I follow. Here is the first of many videos created by James on his ELS build: Tom

    Fixture plate for CNC Router

Did you achieve those tolerances for the pins using end mills to machine the holes/ Did it require trial and error testing beforehand. Sorry if you mentioned this before, I did a quick skim read and didn't see that information (doesn't mean it's not there :) ). That plate will offer so much...

    Fixture plate for CNC Router

Looks great - thank you for the update. How did the fixturing pins fit? Are you using metric or imperial for the fixture? As an aside, I spoke to the Cancam rep a while ago. Very friendly and helpful, even invited me to their location to show me the CNCs in action. I don't have the room - or...

Toronto East End - Where to source Material and Tooling for the little guy

Great news, thank you. My first project in aluminum will be a vacuum fixture plate using cast aluminum plate - I found a source for that. But I will keep your material in mind for my next projects. Could you share your approximate location - postal code perhaps?

Toronto East End - Where to source Material and Tooling for the little guy

Thank you for sharing this. Are these examples of material you have from time to time as off cuts from your work, or a one time selection? I am in East York, and could use such aluminum for future projects, or to practice tool path strategies/test end mills. Tom

    Fixture plate for CNC Router

Thank you for the information on their website - I will check in from time to time to see if they update it. Again, it looks to be a very capable CNC, and given its construction I imagine it can hold fine tolerances well. Being too busy to update one's website is a good thing :)

    Fixture plate for CNC Router

I am new to CNC machining, and have only recently completed my ATC/Masso build. I am slowly learning the CAM side of things (I am teaching myself to use F360), and starting slowly with milling as I get to know my machine and tool paths. I started with machinable wax, then moved on to acrylic and...

    Fixture plate for CNC Router

Thank you for sharing that. I had been to Cancam's website before but never seen that model (C1) - I still do not see it on their site except for some videos. It looks like a nice machine - nice balance of size and functionality, and a very clean design. I believe the Taiwanese motion hardware...

    Fixture plate for CNC Router

I am enjoying the work you are showing. I have a much smaller hobby CNC - Onefinity Woodworker X50 - that I have customized and added on to. I added an ATC spindle and am also using a Masso G3 with the linear tool rack pick and place logic - it is working out well so far. I purchased a slightly...

Tool Surface plate height gauge recommendations

I recently found this video while researching vises - Cheap Milling Machine Vise... At the 14:00, and more specifically 18:00 minute mark he gives a great explanation of how to use the surface gauge to determine squareness. First post BTW, Tom from Toronto, happy to have found this forum.
