  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

One less John on the Forum

I'm somewhat jealous. I like the idea of changing nail colours sometime- there are so many pretty colours, but it could just as easily be that I like the smell of nail polish... a reminder of a miss-spent youth happily building model airplanes and their (acetone) dope finish.

Is there a reason you need a faraday cage...? In my head I'm thinking of the pictures of Nikola Tesla and his High Voltage experiments... Though minimizing Cell Phone distractions might be a good reason too.

Some stuff needs a ride to Vancouver Island and Ontario.

I hope he’s doing Ok, I had a couple of nice PM’s with him.

    Anyone using ChatGTP?

Sometimes I’d like it to clone my voice, continue the conversation with my Wife and then send me the executive summary of the things I apologized for and their ramifications.

    Spitfire needs work

I wonder what scale it is. $110,000 for a replica that needs restoration from a landing accident seems optimistic. I’d always dreamed of building a 80%+ scale replica of a Hawker Hurricane.

    UPS gripe

I didn’t know Purolator was part of Canada post. (When I first moved to Canada- I thought Purolator was a coffee delivery service- I knew Canadians really liked their coffee… I think it was a couple of years before I found out they delivered things other than coffee)

    Really ?

We have a kettle that opens a similar way. I’ve learnt to partially pry up the lid before pressing the button.

    UPS gripe

My concern is that people will be driving to the nearest city… 100’s of km’s… Luckily for us, we still get delivery to our door. I suspect not much longer though. I still suspect UPS etc are taking the profitable parts of delivery leaving Canada Post to be forced to focus on less profitable...

    UPS gripe

I’d worry what that would do for mail service. Would rural people have to drive to the closest city to get their mail? It’s doesn’t seem fair that UPS etc get the cream of the crop and Canada Post is saddled with the services it’s legislated to provide. Politicians need to decide what Canada...

Benchtop Hobbing Machine - The BHM

Wow, that looks amazing!!!! A lot more compact that I was expecting too. What an interesting project you’ve done. I love the HMI you’ve made also.

A near miss and big consequences

Glad to hear that you’re Ok and on the mend. No machining etc for 5-6 weeks sucks. I’d climb up the wall. A good time to learn AutoDesk Fusion or some other computer based tasks. Or watch reruns of Oprah, which may be of similar enjoyment to many.
