  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Youtube- The curious origins of (the words for) imperial and metric units

Yes, like that. They did say to keep walking, and it works, but they also said don't try that with buses. There are 4 million cars in Hanoi and 6 million scooters and motorcycles, they limit them to 250cc, and they will go through place you wouldn't think possible, at speed you wouldn't think...

    20 something kids

I'd done quite few other jobs previously, but none involving machining and on my first job in a machine shop I was told to drill and tap the hub on a flat belt sheave, I had to be shown where the drills were and which one to use, and where the vise was, and then, when the hole was drilled I...

Youtube- The curious origins of (the words for) imperial and metric units

We vacationed in Vietnam and Cambodia a couple of months ago, in Hanoi we went through a roundabout, thankfully in a bus, where the cars and almost everything went the right way, but some were going against the traffic. Driving there would be an experience not everyone would enjoy, but then we...

    Real estate listings suck

If you think about it, if you are buying a property, anyone that is both a buyer and seller of properties on commission, can not be working for you, the way they make their money is by selling and even buying properties at the highest possible prices, that is how they make their commission...

Apple has better security features as well, but I doubt that's relevant for most people

iPhone to Android - phone recommendations?

I had a Pixel 4 that couldn't get reception in much of my metal clad shop so I switched to a Samsung because it had much better reception. After a couple of years it quit, I took it in for repairs ad was told $500 because of water damage and there was no way it was ever made wet, worst case...

    Machine Rotary Phase Converter Problem

FWIW, I completely disconnected the contactor, I could get the coil off but couldn't find a non-destructive way to get to the contacts though when it was out, I checked the resistance on the contact and they all read zero ohms and this will be the second time I took it out and put uit back in so...

    Machine Rotary Phase Converter Problem

Not being an electrician, I assume the 'peckerhead of the motor' is the junction box on the motor, and yes, they are tight, that was actually one of the first things I checked, so simple I never even thought of mentioning it, one would think the distributor would have checked it too. The...

    Machine Rotary Phase Converter Problem

I have a 15 hp RPC that has run well for most of 20 years but has started acting up. Initially I had a start cap blow up about three months ago while the RPC was running, then about two weeks ago, it blew again, this time on start up. I replaced it and thinking I had done something wrong...

    Colchester Chipmaster

Does anyone have an idea what a Colchester Chipmaster is worth? I'm asking for someone else and after a quick look at it, the ways look very good, it has no chucks, the variator is not just not functional but totally missing and was replaces with a 575V 3 phase motor with a VFD. I didn't check...

    Quick change insert height

Personally, I can't recall anyone ever calling them vernier digital calipers or digital vernier calipers, just digital calipers, or calipers, the one that gets me is all the people that call a face mill a fly cutter.
