  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Lathe worm gear repair

Adding a broached area probably would be best. And then proceeded with rollpins. Now that I've given it some More thought. I'll have to look at the dates for the meet up.

    Lathe worm gear repair

I like that idea. If it doesn't work then could still proceed with a broaching repair.

    Lathe worm gear repair

The exist key was cast in place. Making a new key is the easy part (in my mind) permanently securing the key in place is the hold up. Plus using a wearing friendly material. I thought I typed that in my first post but I must have edited that out. I'm in Drumheller, but make my way into Calgary...

    Lathe worm gear repair

The existing key should run the full length, but only about 1" remains. The set screws (#56) hold the end bushings in place in the main housing of the apron. My "idea" like a said not a good one. Is to drill four new set screws in either end of the worm gear. Broaching I didn't think would...

    Lathe worm gear repair

I bought a parts kits Logan 1825. I've been assessing the individual assemblies and their parts, freeing up seized shafts etc. determining missing components. I have identified several issues, . So far nothing out of my ability or capability to repair/remake. With one exception. This worm gear...

Looking for a set of change gears for a King 1022 lathe

I have some change gears to something. Came with my Mill, the guy was selling a small lathe at the same time and they made their way home with me hidden in a box. Don't need them, but not sure they would work for you. Can't tell you much more. Unfortunately they are in long term storage for...

    Self-Clearing Customs

Not a lot of first hand experience. But the first thing to determine is it worth your time and gas money. You'll need to visit a CBSA office in person. Plus you will need to go to the UPS/Fedex depot usually in person. Unless you live in close proximity to both of those. Might not be worth the...

    Car Rust

You are behind the 8 Ball on this one. It will only continue to get worse. Fluid film may have helped pre rust, with regular car washes making sure you get into the nooks and crannies. But if you really want to stop in from getting worse you need to grind away all the rust and post treat with...

    Tool Lathe files

The details say they are in a pack of three. So per unit isn't bad. If they are a 3 pack that is.

    Tool spotting blue for scraping?

I watched a video of Watch Wes Work. He scrapped a large angle plate. He used cement tinting pigments (black and orange) I couldn't find any of the regular suggested contrasts. So local to Edmonton I found some pigments (black and orange) at a cement supply shop. I gave them a go, worked...
