  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

    Return Spring for Drill Press

KMS will be hit n' miss depending on the person - see now if *I* was still there... hahaha... JET used to sell machinery up north here. But since I've been there they've been sold off 3 times. Each time something came, something left. All of our stuff when I was there came out of Taiwan or...

Another Amazon Deal - Nicholson File

I'm going to have to say no, as it's a Chrome plug-in. But if someone knows otherwise... chime in!

Another Amazon Deal - Nicholson File

Oh I've taken to following virtually every item on Amazon these days, and type them all into a spreadsheet and.... yeah, I'm fulla sheet. ;) No, it's from the Honey app! When I was on that amazon item page, I just wait for the "H" to come up on the edge of the browser window. You click on...

Another Amazon Deal - Nicholson File

Wait for the next drop! It's back at ~$28 now, but has been less. I'm waiting!

    Return Spring for Drill Press

Try KMS. Bring your old one, and just look at the floor models. You might find it easier if you swap the whole spring case as well, then you're not limited to the width of your existing spring. You might have to drill out the center of the case to match your handle shaft poking out. Note the...

Shop layout / shop work flow

At $50/m, youd be probably better off to buy your own, or toss the stuff. I watched a buddy who (against my advise) put all his furniture in storage as he went off to work at sea. By the time he got back, what he had paid in storage, he could have bought all new stuff TWICE!

Shop layout / shop work flow

One thing I'm (starting) to do is find what stuff I have that is only odd-use things, or material that's rarely used and moving it to off-site storage... aka, one of my garden sheds! Found I was dedicating too much valuable real estate that could be better put to use for common activity...

    CAD Recommendations for Mac?

I've played with it in the past - but decided that it was more architecture centric (sure, you can still use it for anything!). I could be wrong, that's just my opinion of it. The support for Fusion (like Lars) seems to be much larger. Again, just IMHO.

Oh man.... this story is about to get heavy.

    CAD Recommendations for Mac?

And as soon as you get hooked on Fusion360, you'll want/need to subscribe to Lars! https://www.youtube.com/user/cadcamstuff He goes from 'heres a mouse' right up to advanced modeling. He's connected (somehow?!) to Autodesk AFAIK.

New to me 4” x 36” belt sander

Be (very) wary of the bearings used in it. Especially the top roller. They're all made of fine chinesium. I used to run the service center at KMS tools, and we were a King (amongst others) warranty depot. Saw....many.... of those roll through. Far easier and cheaper (due to collateral damage)...

    New to me 6" X 48" belt sander/ 9" disc sander

Most start or run caps will fail only under load. I'll assume yours has only one (start) cap? Bypass that thermal fuse (temporarily). Take off the sander belt. Put a drill or something on the shaft, and get it up over ~500rpm and hit the power. It should then happily run as normal. Replace...

    Plasma cutters

All I'm saying, is that if you've got 1/4" hose/pipe in the system, you've choked the whole thing off. You can only flow about 4cfm (at 120) through it. So your 10cfm compressor becomes a moot point.

    New to me 6" X 48" belt sander/ 9" disc sander

When I used to work at Akhurst machinery, we sold a graphite backing pad (by the foot) (https://shop.akhurst.com/usa/pro6-hd-g.html) that would make a world of difference on your belt sander. At the time, I only had my 4x36, so of course bought some and installed it. Fast forward a few years...

    Plasma cutters

Another thing to remember... you can have an awesome 50cfm pump, attached to a 1000 gallon tank. But then you run your lines into a 3/8" regulator, that goes down to 1/4" ID hose at the reel.... you've got nothing. ;) Point is - you're pretty much only as strong (CFM) as your weakest link...
