  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. WTB - 5C Collet closer(for lathe)

Good day, Wondering if anyone has a 5C collet closer they are looking to get rid of. Currently I am using a drawtube style but would prefer a lever style or pneumatic below is a picture for reference - does not need to be exact. Let me know what you have and how much you'd be wanting. Thanks Dennis

In need of assistance - calgary SE

Good day, Bit of a long shot but figured Id ask. Looking to buy some collets from an older gentleman in Calgary on the SE side. But being out in Saskatoon turned out to be a problem. Was hoping he would drop em in the mail but he mentioned he has had issues and didnt feel comfortable so I didnt...

I wouldnt mind a sask forum. Might be easier to bounce ideas off local ish people. Never know when you need material or have some extra tools for sale. I'm just outside Saskatoon.

    Shipping a Lathe ?

So far ive had 3 machines shipped from ontario. 2 lathes and 1 mill. Havent had any damage on any of them yet, but im thinking ive just been lucky. The one thing I always make sure of is that they get sent via rail instead of on a truck. First time I did it was because of cost(rail being...

Found it as a 220v 3ph which will make it easy, i wont have to mess around with transformers. Now i just need to build a RPC. Needed to happen sooner or later anyway and this is a...

New bench for the shop - finished

In the last house we owned I had the same problem with the rickedy bench I had, always frustrating. Anything big enough to have to be built on the floor was always a bugger too. This particular bench had a fairly wicked twist in the top(learned a lesson when gluing it up). Ended up making a...

New bench for the shop - finished

Thanks guys, and yes the legs are adjustable, my garage floor is fairly even but made the adjustable feet just in case I need to make any adjustments or if it wasnt level in either direction I could easily adjust it. Instead of messing around with shims and such. Have a few others benches at...

    Checking bed twist

Another option is to use a pendulum setup to check lathe bed twist. Very easy to make and no special(machinist level) required and still quite accurate. I don't have a picture of the setup I made but there is a video on youtube link below I personally would not use the tailstock sliding back...
