  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Calgary Area Meetup is set for Saturday July 12th at 10am. The signup thread is here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

Shop Justification - 30 Euro Bolt

The sad thing is that I actually thought about taking it out just for a picture. Then I came to my senses remembering the Loctite, the grease and the springs. Not gonna happen :) ... but you are welcome to come by for an in person inspection

Shop Justification - 30 Euro Bolt

2013 Ducati 1200S Multistrada Yeah I know - if you can't afford to maintain it, don't buy it! But, I love it and would buy it again.

Shop Justification - 30 Euro Bolt

It's a good thing I bought all that equipment and tooling over the past 30 years. Even learned to use it reasonably well. Went for a bike ride yesterday and upon arriving back home I put the side stand down as one does in preparation for opening the shop door. The bike didn't want to stop...

    Product Cordless tools

I don't use my cordless tools commercially so have no relevant feedback in that regard. I have a collection of Ridgid tools bought when on sale for home renovation projects. For example I wanted a reciprocating saw and "they through in" a 1/2" hammer drill back in 2008 or so. Later I wanted a...

Tool Does Anyone Still Use a Wiggler?

You are most welcome. I'm glad I got over my laziness and posted the initial picture.

Tool Does Anyone Still Use a Wiggler?

Exactly - the gizmo centers the centre already marked out. No need to "feel bad" ... The 1/4-40 thread was used because I have the die/tap (model making) and it provides greater wall thickness for the collar and spring. A 1/4-28 thread would likely be just fine. Just have to watch the spring...

Tool Does Anyone Still Use a Wiggler?

Well, it isn't anything too amazing. First off, let me clarify that "non-round" refers to stock or a part being turned in a 4-jaw chuck. It simply comes down to placing a small "centre punch" mark at the centre of rotation. I've been known to use the mill DRO to find a reference location on...

Tool Does Anyone Still Use a Wiggler?

I too use a "wiggler" to centre non-round material in the lathe. For round stock I use a tool post mounted dial indicator. The wiggler also does a great job when turning an eccentric feature on either round or non-round stock. Here's the one I made years ago from a leftover pushrod end...

How to make hole for taper pin ?

It might be worth thinking about step drilling the hole if you have drill bits in small enough increments. (Perhaps 3 steps equally spread over the depth.) This will considerably lower the stress on the reamer as it cuts the larger end of the taper. It may not be an issue with a 6mm pin but is...

Glad you got through it. Anyone that says, "It's just 'plastic' has never been there"!

    UHMW

One consideration that may not apply to this application ... if high precision and/or consistency is required between parts. Letting the part(s) "age" for a few hours before final turning is helpful. This was learned when making go/no-go gauges. Dimensions would creep a couple thou overnight...
