    Upgrade on lathe and mill.

In Alberta? Like Trev says, keep looking, build your network, ask around. I live in Alberta, I’ve picked up a machine pretty well every year for the past 10 years - sometimes I pay as much as 10 cents on the dollar compared to new. Usually I pay the scrap metal price (couple times they have...

    Upgrade on lathe and mill.

Quite a range in lathe size you have presented. I find on lathes up to about 16" swing it is still a handy size machine (no problem working small parts, not crazy heavy, still easy to power up), over that they seem to get a bit clunky and the logistics are more of a chore, tooling gets pretty...

    Stanko 6R12 Vertical mill

You were telling me about that machine - but never saw any pictures. It is quite substantial indeed!

Yup, been to his shop, he’s been to mine.

WTB Pratt Burnerd KC15 D3 Multisize Collet Chuck

Were you able to track down a KC-15 with the integral D1-3 mount? This flat back with D1-4 mounting plate has cleaned up well. For the key, I sleeved the pin, pushed out the handle and added an extension. I haven’t found a source for the collet springs (only missing two) - but the springs are...

Tips/Techniques Looking for easy removable thread locker

How about just clean threads? Don’t use any thread locker at all. It doesn’t sound like a high vibration application or a critical service. Threaded fasteners hold really well. A typical machine could have hundreds (even thousands) of bolted joint connections - good condition threads...

    6 jaw chuck options?

Shars $191.50USD plus shipping and import fees. I’ve bought a few things from them, shipped in a timely manner. The import fees always getcha - my last order it worked out to about 9%. Of course the 5% off coupons are easy to get - so that helps a bit.

    6 jaw chuck options?

Here below are said 4 lines of code. Making a set of jaws is a considerable task, so I’m providing additional comments. If you want a worthy challenge, this would qualify. Maybe there is something special about that chuck so that you really want to use it (perhaps it is big, or a special...

    Tool Copper vise jaws

Like Mr. Kitta says. A little RAE Vise made in Hamilton. It is not for heavy use/abuse. I just clamp it down close to where ever its needed. Granted it may not be what one would want if there was just one vise in the shop - however I have many vices.

    6 jaw chuck options?

I see from your signature line you have a Tormach 770. Obviously machining up the jaw blanks is a bit of work, but that part is pretty straightforward. Generating the scroll teeth is perhaps 4 lines of code - at least on an old DX32 machine (glad to share ‘em if you’re interested).

    6 jaw chuck options?

Yes. First I went through Harold’s method about 15 times - he does an excellent job of explaining how the teeth function and what you need to accomplish in making jaws that engage with the face scroll (that it took me that many tries to understand what he was laying down is not a reflection on...

    6 jaw chuck options?

I went with the buy once cry once option for my Smart and Brown (back in the day that lathe was an expensive piece of kit). Putting a POS chuck on it would cause bad karma - Bison 6J set tru, direct mount on the D1-4. It was most of $3K cad - the purchase pain has since subsided, so I’m now...

    Standard Modern Series 2000

My SM1120 head stock runs pretty noisily - I’ve had the cover off a few times (even tried running it a little, throws plenty of oil). Everything seems good, just noisey. Figured I‘d run it for a while, if it truly is a problem other symptoms ought to show up (more noise, metal in the oil etc)...

Colchester lathe, $6000, Red Deer, AB

Sure, run down to Princess Auto and pick up a lead screw - how much will that set you back?
