Machine Considering Buying a King 1236ML Looking for Opinions

I have a King 1236 lathe that I purchased new just over 1 year ago. It has been a really good machine for my needs (all hobby work). I have been really happy with it. Recently I had the lead screw transmission pile up due to casting sand in the oil ports and King looked after sending all the new...

    What House are you?

I was team green but switched about 12 years ago to team red. Used 10+ hours a day and have only had to repair the safety switch on the saw a few years ago. Just recently added some 12v to the tool bag and they are very handy for small stuff and tight spaces.

    7/8" 9tpi...what insert ???

I am looking in my little black book and trying to decipher which threading insert I need to do a 7/8" 9tpi thread. I have a 60 deg tool I'm trying but it is not looking right. I only have an 11ER insert tool and its too small for the threads. I measured the 60 deg tool with my guage and its...

    ER40 collet chuck

That make 100% sense to me, and how it probably should be, but alas, it is not. I think I have decided I will just modify the center gear with a fixed hub and separate spacer so it can be VERY easily rotated to either configuration. Thanks so much for all the time everyone has spent walking me...

    ER40 collet chuck

Just for clarification, this wasn't a used lathe, I purchased it brand new from King Dec. 2023. Yes, there are a couple of things that don't make sense with the instruction manual and whats actually on the lathe. I have a really long email chain with a rep from King. Unfortunately my dealer...

    ER40 collet chuck

I'm not sure if the picture in post #129 helps, but you can see the top, center and bottom gear. The large center gear is the one with the hub/spacer that requires rotatating. The upper and lower gears won't change place weather they are rotated or not

    ER40 collet chuck

As I mentioned in my reply to RobinHood's post, if King won't send me another assemble I will make a hub with a separate spacer to correct this design flaw. If I recall for imperial both top and bottom gears are 40T on this set up.

    ER40 collet chuck

Interesting, although the difference of the teeth and which gear it engages will change. That being said, I wonder if that is also why the inch threading is out slightly... I should do a test... I did ask King about sending me another gear/hub assembly that I could orientate opposite the...

    ER40 collet chuck

I certainly like your system WAY better than this one. No. the shaft of the upper gear is too short to add a bushing so it always has to contact the inside gear and lower smaller gears could be installed either direction.

    ER40 collet chuck

For some reason it won't let me upload the picture I took of the assembly. I was very nervous about destroying the two bearings in the gear (85/91T) so I went VERY gently in the press. I first tried with a small deadblow and appropriately sized socket but it wouldn't move. I can't see the...

    ER40 collet chuck

So, I am very happy I finally got the threading sorted out. After much head scratching and seeking advice I decided to take a chance with pressing the center hub out of the large gear and turning it around. According to the "experts" at King this is just simply flipped around (even after...
