    Standard Modern 12x30

@jstem4 - above is a simple scetch of the utilathe. You can adjust the gibs to tighten up your clearance. I stoned my ways to remove any burs and then adjusted the (3) gib plate to take out most of the play. It takes some time but well worth it.

    Identifying an odd thread.

My thoughts: Measure OD of the thread, measure the TPI or check the pitch for metric. If things are “weird” then is the thread tapered? Straight? Application?? Is it hydraulic, gas, where is the contraption made? The threads can get crazy - British Straight pipe, G1, G2 etc. typically...

Standard Modern lathe - $1800 - Newcastle, On

Yep, looks like a 13/20 and all the handle balls are in place. The dial indicator for the carriage is a sign of someone reasonably using it. Awesome deal if it comes all tooled (as pictured).

SM 10" Utilathe Tailstock Taper Question

Hey @skippyelwell - I have a request into the Chinese for 12 DP x 20 PA. I will let you know as I have a few machines needing some gears in the 12 DP. I have most of the cad laid out for the bevel gears and the cutters. If I have success I will post that and maybe a couple more lathes are...

SM 10" Utilathe Tailstock Taper Question

@YYCHM - the gears are totally different, alas. They are on my “to make list”. The 55 tooth is pressed onto the shaft (hopefully removable to just press a new one on). The other gear is machined onto the shaft and that shaft is hollow and the outer surface is polished. A key is fixed at the...
