    Eclipse

There are a couple shots from New Brunswick. I shot a short video. The eclipse was not really my thing, got Miss Metric making chips and my saw mill tuned. The darkness from the eclipse slowed my hot tub soak - LOL

    Dabblings

@Chicken lights : that’s not the road to New Brunswick!! - LOL. Safe travels!! @Dabbler - looks like you are having a wonderful time!! Would have been great to see you and the gang at the meet up, alas…. I will have to host a Maritime meet up in the fall perhaps!

"Name that noise". Standard Modern Series 2000

@JeffD and @Danzo187 : there is a set screw that locks the front cap in place. Be sure to have it backed out before trying to drive the shaft into it. This cap locates the shaft bearing so you can make sure the gear mesh is correct by making sure this cap is located properly.

    Quill issues in Bridgeport clone

@88hillman - what do you mean by “hang up” with respect to the manual feed? My Bridget started getting hard to pull up or down at the start of travel (like the first two inches). It wouldn’t let the quill do its thing- check out this...

Safe travels John, sadly I will miss a visit from you this year (unless you really want the miles on the truck (LOL))!

    The Brent H update thread!

There, photo loaded to prove it true! It is amazing how you think your mill has gone crazy and then you recall “oh ya, gotta tram the head after the big move - doh!”

    The Brent H update thread!

Just a quick update: many projects on the go or finished from installing Propane, gas fireplace, gas stove, new tile floors, laundry room make over, new powder room, new pantry/coffee bar etc Yesterday I finally climbed through the shop rafters and ran the power lines for the mill and lathes...

    Tool Chucking Reamers

@Susquatch check your machinist handbook for pinning information- might have what you need.

    Tool Chucking Reamers

A good quality set of adjustable reamers will work very well - most, however, will be hand feed and have 3 to 4 cutters. They work well for very close fits where you just need a “hair” removed. For chucking reamers you have ones for the drill chuck (obviously) and there are morse taper ones...

    Cross-Slide Leadscrew & Nut

Well……I used a finger o_O Just at the end of the cut. Also boring bar held at bare minimum length for max support at the thread length. I was threading 9/16” LH acme for my smaller Utilathe. The cutter was quite undercut to allow the back clearance. I think I had a bit of an ACME threading...

    Cross-Slide Leadscrew & Nut

@thestelster : nice work!!! Those Utilathes and their nuts!! Doing the Internal threading leaves for a lot of tool holder flex and I found I had to let the tool ride through many clearance passes and test fit frequently to get a great final fit. I also held pressure on the boring bar during...

Tips/Techniques Arbor Press Mod and TOT

Somewhere on here I have my press stand and ratchet mods - will see what I can add to this. One thing to note is to carve out a decent hollow under the press base for other gears, shafts to fit. Typically you have to press on shaft bearings where a shoulder (gear, larger diameter etc) are...

SM change gears - Imperial 1120 for metric gears

@88hillman I was able to salvage my USB and transfer data over to a jump drive. The forum does not support uploading a DWG file - If you PM me your email I can send you what info I have. I have the banjo and gear layout - did not dimension it yet as the project stopped when I got the metric...

"Name that noise". Standard Modern Series 2000

@JeffD the biggest pain to the shaft removal - red arrow and take off the driven pulley. Then behind that is the plate (yellow arrow) that seals the drive shaft and the access to the bearings you wish to pull. There is a cup seal for the drive shaft and possibly a gasket for the bearing seal...

"Name that noise". Standard Modern Series 2000

@Susquatch - getting there! Just finishing up a tile job (about 230 sqft) and I can get the powder room, laundry and hall entry running. Then it should be back to play time! I have electrical to finish up and then the lathes and mill will be running again!! I have a hay bailer to make some...
