  • Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. Don’t be shy, sign up and come, or plan your own meetup!

@slow-poke : I have 2 and they are level using the 1” levelling pegs, standard with the lathe. After levelling you “could” drive a 3/8” bolt down into a concrete pad, or into a deck plate (lathe used on a ship - US Navy used them quite a bit) “But” it depends on how you are using the lathe...

Yes, the only felt (at least on mine) is just on the big end.

@JohnH my work head looks like this: It has a felt ring on the big end under an “oil” screw: The other end has no oil screw and is similar to your end that has the labyrinth type seal (those annular rings). This bolt in the top is used to lock the spindle (should be a bit fancier but does...

@JustaDB - about 3 to 4 inches of bed length (no chuck) so all that space. Also fast change out with parts that may need “quicker” machining. Mostly the bed length as I made an ER 32. Collet plate (which requires a D1-3 back plate) so more space/expense?

Hello from Almonte, Ontario (just left of Ottawa; but don't hold that against me!)

Welcome @brino from “close to Fredericton” New Brunswick! Nice collection of tools!

For the folks out there with a Utilathe (10/12”) with a D1-3 headstock, the internal taper is a M4. Given the government situation and steel etc I ordered a set of M4 collets from ebay on a decent deal from the states. 1/8 to 1”. They are not “through” collets but will certainly hold...

Cincinnati No 2 Cutter Grinder Restoration

@Gennady I have the gear grinding attachment and the 10” saw blades fit well with a spacer plate to lift them up and then the finger sits centred. Without the attachment above the setup for saw blades takes some home made mods to the base plate of the work head - this piece is standard and...

Cincinnati No 2 Cutter Grinder Restoration

@JohnH the work head has 2 felt rings that retain oil to keep things lubed and yes, extra oil leaks out. There is a slot screw in the housing to add the oil. Parts 366 are the felts.

I would think it is a No1. Mine is a No2 and is quite different in many aspects:

@Gennady I know what most of the items you have are (mostly because I am making them…ugh!) but you have some great stuff! The radius turning head and the standard work head will be great! Looks like you also may have the base for the saw sharpener (doing circular saw blades etc) and you have...

So, having a sharpener is … amazing!! After several years, the rebuild, the move and now having it running is super great! Lots of bushings, jig parts and other items to make as I go but …. Ten inch saw blades for the wood stuff and …. Rotary grinding old worn slitting saws back to...

Anyone recognize this indexing head/fixture? It doesn’t match the Cincinnati No2 parts but seems to need some other pieces.
