Interesting I believe those rods are simiar to durafix low temp aluminum brazing rods that require mapp gas. I have another head which is awaiting recycling I could drill a hole and you could see if it would work out. If you are game emai me and we can discuss. We would just need a straight edge...
Found a replacement chain guide retaining pin one side a bevel which needs to be present once reconstructed the other side threaded for pin removal with a slide hammer.
Apparently JB weld over time with heat cycling will shrink so its my opinion that this would be a temporary fix..
Now I'm leaning on turning a copper pin and having it tig welded as Tom had suggested. If anyone knows a shop with a resonable rates and a lot of experience that would be great.
Johnwa I have used jb weld on external engine repairs before but I am somewhat concerned being oil soakred with lots of vibration and heat that a failure may occur. If it gets caught up in the chain and the engine being an interference engine bad things may happen.
Ok I have started this thread to fix some issues that may have been present with my other user name. This thread however just continues from my other thread.
Just wondering if anyone has comments on the use of durafix brazing rods, for aluminum. Or wondering if a 3/8" aluminum dowel be shaped to fit and brazed in or glued in. Then a bit of drilling would just be needed.
Ok I made some measurements the largest drill bit I could get through the hole was 23/64 and it was a sloppy fit. Not certain how much room a drill press requires but not a lot of room to work with if the same angle cut?
Apparently something may have been wrong with my prevous screen name so if you notice my name change that was at the request of a moderator.
I like your thinking Janger my concern would be the press in fit hopefully that won't cause a fracture in the casting? But once the bushing is in the...
The hole now is about 3/8", not certain but it maybe wise to enlarge and clean up that hole first? Then size the plug and thread, glue, or press fit something and final machining.
