    draw bolt rod

I replaced my drawbar some time ago, but I did not notice that the replacement was about 5mm longer than the original. After some time, tooling was not seating properly in the quill and it took some digging to find out why. Basically the sleeve bushing was just a little short and whacking on...

    Good wood for tool chest

They are solidly made with a 3/8" beech front, and 3/16 plywood bottoms and sides. Nothing is loose or badly fitted, the parts are smooth and finished with a clear varnish. Not a Gerstner by any means but these drawer stacks are quite substantial and attractive. I keep my reamers in one...

    Brazing Cast Iron

Second thing to do is anneal the whole piece. about 1500 deg for a half hour - that will remove any residual internal stresses and reduce the possibility of the cracks progressing. Then braze it.

Shop Question for the basement shop guys

I will rely on the opinion of my medical professionals, not a You Tube suggestion in this matter.

Shop Question for the basement shop guys

LoL. Just thinking.... Thats why those bone reinforcement plates and screws are made of titanium. Otherwise the patient would be glued to the inside of the MRI. ! :D

Shop Question for the basement shop guys

The magnetic field inside the MRI hood is INTENSE. It is enough to pull a magnetic fragment if it is embedded in soft tissue and cause additional damage.

Other Looking for a low profile jack in the Fraser Valley

That would be my first choice. But again I have not found a lift with the forks which can fit under a 3" gap. The machine + girder is 1800 lbs so I don't wan't to cantilever it too far with a hoist unless the front rollers are fully behind the CG. The job is simply to lift it securely by 1" to...

Other Looking for a low profile jack in the Fraser Valley

Yep, 3". When I positioned it (25+ years ago), I used a pair of air mattresses under each end which lifted the cabinet enough to slip a regular pallet jack under. The problem with that is its quite unstable ( bouncy!) and as you can see the machine is very top heavy with the milling head...

Other Looking for a low profile jack in the Fraser Valley

Good suggestions. The lathe is very top heavy so I'm quite concerned about tipping. Once it's jacked up an inch or so, I have four caster pads which are 4" high which it will ride on - the floor jack was one way to lift it in a controlled way. Murphy and a couple of Gremlins live in my...
