I'm getting the dreaded message with increasing frequency that I must set my adblocker to OFF for continued YouTube grazing, or buy a Premium subscription. I'm using Chrome but I'm hearing this increasingly from people with other browsers; Firefox & whatever. I have tried with ads on in another installation & its as painful as TV. Maybe its a neighborhood drive-by & the messages will recede? Or has The End arrived?

On or off ?
Tis the season, more ads, longer ads.
If an ad is more than five seconds to the skip option I just go back and click my selection again, still takes a few tries sometimes but I'm sending a message, just not sure if anyone is listening.
The ads wouldn't be as bad if they were targeted, I'd be much more likely to spend with Accusize or KBC or something but for some reason they're only interested in my femine hygiene products spending.

Use uBlock on Firefox. I don't remember the last time I saw an ad on Youtube.

There was a recent glitch where Youtube caught on to uBlock but ticking off "Quick Fix" under the filter list settings fixed it.

I use ublock origin on chrome. My friend is using Firefox with ublock origin & he has been b*itching since summer. Maybe the algorithm knows who to apply pressure to

Add this as a Custom Filter:
Code:
youtube.com##+js(set,yt.config_.openPopupConfig.supportedPopups.adBlockMessageViewModel, false)
youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.adBlocksFound, 0)
youtube.com##+js(set, ytplayer.config.args.raw_player_response.adPlacements, [])
youtube.com##+js(set, Object.prototype.hasAllowedInstreamAd, true)

I use duckduckgo viewer so I get non-targeted ads and skip them asap. almost as good as ad blocker

Where do I enter this code? I was going to say talk to me like I was in Grade-2 but kids probably know this already LOL. How about in the words of my 90-year old dad (may he R.I.P) 'is that like a fax'? :D

edit ahhhh maybe MyFilters or Trusted Sites tabs? Looks like kind of an editor environment similar to your code?

I run the Brave browser. By it's default settings I don't see ads. Occasionally youtube throws out a curve ball that makes it difficult to avoid ads. This is usually fixed within a few days. It's been a long time since it was an issue. Some websites are almost unusable without an ad blocker.

Yep, click on My filters, paste into the filter window below and check Enable Custom filters.

I just put up with the ads. After all, they monetize YouTube for hosting and provide income for site creators. Some sites are worse than others, a few sites I visit have no ads whatsoever. so I wonder if the content creators have some control as to whether ads are displayed or not. Some creators are now embedding ads within their videos, shilling products, but these are super easy to skip past.

A creator can elect not to monetize their content. Most creators love to accept product placement and sponsorships... I hate those the most

Did a little reading just out of curiosity. Can find articles showing both left and right wing bias to youtube. No idea if the algorithm they use for guys like me is either one. I don’t look at politics on youtube, so maybe I just don’t get bothered with as much crap?

I certainly am the (self inflicted) victim of rabbit holes on YouTube…

Sure this isn't targeted? What are you watching? ;)

Firefox, uBlock Origin, Linux. The only ads I see are for a few sponsored sites in which the presenter starts giving the sponsor's pitch right in the middle of their otherwise totally unrelated discussion. I just skip past that part. I can't remember the last time I saw an actual ad or popup. Decades?

Political bias I believe is targeted like any other identifiable interest. You look at "left wing" sites they suggest more left wing sites. You look at "right wing" sites, they suggest more of those. This is arguably a bit of a problem in that it tends to reinforce a persons already held views, be they reasonable, logical or conspiratorial, and contributes to bubble living.

I refuse to give YT a dime, if for no other reason than their political bias. If they were even-handed in their treatment, it may be a consideration. As it stands, not a chance.

I have a hate on for YT because they terminated my channel. Cannot figure out why (sleepy channel of 100% original metal working stuff, nothing controversial, political or racy) The hate on is because 1) no warning, 2) no explanation 3) this authoritarian, arrogant attitude where you don't get the courtesy of a human interactive appeal or explanation. Despite all the work you put into providing content for us for free, our algorithm thinks you did something wrong so it terminated you. Screw you, we're too important to waste time talking to you.

A glimpse of the big data dystopian future?
