This might be a long shot, but im looking for a schaublin 135 or 150.

I know theres one for sale at a dealer in BC. Looking for one in better condition.

Thanks.

Im in London Ontario. I am willing to pay for shipping but would prefer to have it shipped from within Canada

I got a few shipping quotes from overseas and they are just way too expensive

I was kind of curious about overseas shipping. Not to detract from your post but can you throw some of the price + weight ballpark $ figures? At least you are on the right end of Canada coming off the boat. It would be another additive journey on top to the prairies.

Back when I'd been considering buying a chipmaster in the UK I got very reasonable quotes to ship from London to Montreal, well under $1000 for two lathes in fact.

However, crating, transport and storage of the lathes while trying to organize the logistics of shipping more than one used lathe became untenable.

There were only about 3500 of these lathes produced, but I'd say prospects are fair for finding a lathe in the US rust belt or eastern Canada but you may not have a lot of choice condition wise, how bad is the one you're aware of?

They do sell in you area:

I expect today one in good condition would be around 20,000 CAD+

Here are listings for sale (including BC) around the world:

Might I back up a little and ask why does the OP want specifically a Schaublin. Had he previously used one? Just wondering as there are several lathes of equal quality that are more common in North America and are likely to have far greater spare parts availability. Probably less expensive too. Monarch 10EE comes immediately to mind.

If the guy has a little more space, and can live with slightly less accuracy the DS&G that McGyver posted would be a far more versatile option. (Showing my bias here having spent a bunch of time on one)

Agreed, there are a number of machines in the tool room lathe category that would deliver (with it's geared head and larger size I'd don't put the DSG in the same category, but they did make a tool room plain bearing type 17 few lathes could rival). A 10ee, HLV, Holbrook Minor, B&S 1024 and so on. Condition, tooling and finding one are the biggest factors or at least what would steer me. A creampuff loaded HLV would be pass by with a 15- 20,000+ budget. Still, Having had several Swiss machines apart and done some reconditioning .... it's easy to fall in love them :). The engineering mantra is good enough is good enough..... the Swiss machine manufacturers mantra would be more like make it as good as you possibly can.

Funny enough, I’ve run a DS&G 17T. Ex British army that wound up for sale in my province at a tree spade manufacturer. Not kidding- some stories are just too bizarre to make up. I didn’t buy it for a variety of reasons.

Doubt I’d buy a plain bearing DS&G that has had multiple owners. Call me chicken.

The DS&G I’ve had the most time on was at college, a 13-42. Never saw the inside of headstock, but imagine it had helical gears as was quiet and smooth.

I might add a good condition CVA to the OP’s list, but that would be shooting myself in the foot. Still hankering for one…

I posted this because I was hoping someone on here had one that was not listed for sale but they were thinking about selling it.

Yes, i know of alot that are for sale overseas.

Im not looking for a 10ee, hardinge, etc.

Thanks for the responses.

wowowowow that's a big number. surprising to me since the only two big schaublins I've seen on kijiji were listed for what I thought were not insane prices and both took months to sell (a 160 in quebec for 7500$ in feb of 2024 and a 135 in ontario for 5000$ in 2023)...

I guess the kicker is that you're not only looking for a big schaublin in Canada (very rare),, you're looking for one in good condition... it's so rare to find machine tools here that don't look like they were used by hammer-wielding apes or stored in the basement of the Titanic
