I've noticed a few different machine tools lately that have this interesting white/silver type finish. Anybody know what that is and how to achieve it?

face mills:

My el-cheapo Shars bring head has it too. They say (and I quote) "Nickel plate finished have a great advantage over black oxided finish..."
So you can rest assured, it is very, very special! :)

Kidding aside, I have a boring head & shank tool with it. Maybe seems to be a bit more abrasion resistant than the blackening which can show minor scratches eventually? But they haven't really been worked that hard yet either. Not sure I'd pay extra for it but they are purdy.
