Hi everyone. I spent part of today looking for way oil and found none. Most of the places didn’t even know what it is. One did but they can order it in pails. I need a litre. Does anyone know where I can get some in small quantity in the Calgary area?

I don't think I'd trust PA to have good way oil unless it's in a Brand Name jug or pail and clearly labelled as way oil.

I got some from Napa, they had to order it in. Likely from somewhere in Calgary, their warehouse maybe. 20lt. bucket. Do not remember manufacturer?! but it does say “way oil”on it, in bigger letters.

I have tonna 68and another brand of way oil (68 also). I can spare some also.

It can be purchased at :
boss lubricants 403-279-2223
Chevron lubricants sells vactra. used to have a Calgary office
Flying j in the north east is where i buy my tonna 68

I'll take a look at it tomorrow and take a pic. I believe it states ISO68 not specifically Way Oil.

That makes sense. Way oil is ISO 68 plus some important additives. Without the additives it's just ISO 68, not way oil.

Shell has ISO68 in two kinds - “TONNA“ for the way oil and “TELLUS” for the gear boxes.

But, any oil is better than no oil

I stand corrected, its ISO68 but Compressor oil  and I got it from CT (CrappyTire).

You guys that are running Shell Tonna, have you ever run it alongside, or switched from EEZ brand (through KBC). My only beef with EEZ is I'm convinced it does some staining over time, particularly which has a more open grain vs hardened bedways. The tan color brown is removable with varsol & soft scrubby but it just bugs me a bit. I know it has specific anti-stick ingredients & other properties, but I've also noticed differences among formulators. Some are entirely or primarily a mineral base, others are synthetic or blend. I'm sure they all have their own brew. Apparently one of the additives to help prevent wash off in CNC under perpetual water based emulsion cutting fluid spray, so those would not have extended open air dormant time like my manual machines. I'm just wondering out loud which of these ingredients is the 'stain maker'. I've just been testing some hydraulic oil because I've switched to that kind of oil on my leadscrew & other parts. My informal assessment is it not the super glide feel of way oil, but its not that far off if you use the same viscosity. But its noticeably cleaner & seems to do the job of lubrication & rust prevention because the machines stay pretty clean. Just thinking - a 2-3HP non-coolant machine, with light weight components, not much for heat etc. is probably not taxing these oils anyways. I go through so little of it even a gallon lasts a long time. I probably wipe 50% just cleaning the machine or its flow through from the 1-shot oiler on the mill.

I've only ever used some no-name brand way oil I got with my first lathe, and some Grizzly way oil I got for my new lathe. A certain fellow we both know brought me some Tonna that I've started using. None of it has ever stained my ways.

However, I like to use a high sulphur cutting oil on steel and that stuff almost stains on contact. Could that be the source of your stains?

I was also thinking cutting oil might be a culprit in & around the the chuck area. I see some stain on my mill vise & cutting tools if I don't give them a wipe & they sit there. Not even sure if they contain Sulphur but they do stain. However, I'm seeing this tan stain in other lubrication areas that never see cutting oil like the tailstock, shift levers, far end of power shafts.... Its not the end of the world but just more of an irritant. Might have to try some other brand. I've had this EEZ for many years but cant imagine it goes bad.

I'd bet it would outlive my grandkids if it is petroleum based. But who knows what in Ezzzz. Lots of ways to get ISO68 viscosity. If it has vegetable oil or soluble oils in it, it could go bad. I'm old fashioned and like the stuff that comes out of the oil wells.

I bought a gallon of Vactra 2 once through MMC and it cost an arm and leg. When I needed more I found that Petro Canada sold "way oil" in a 5 gallon pail for the same price as that one gallon Vactra! And the Perto-Can stuff is better IMO. The stuff is gooey thick and clings to the ways like crazy.
