Wanted: A spare AXA QCTP kicking around for sale?

Finally had enough of shimming tools in my lathe's lantern style tool post.

Figured I would put the word out here to see if anyone has a spare QCTP sitting around before I buy one. --> Seems like the kind of thing someone would buy, then later upgrade their setup, so have a spare kicking around.

I run a Craftex b2227l (10"X18") AXA is the right size, right?

Found this elsewhere:
SIZES
OXA-6"-9"- swing-MINI LATHE-wedge style
AXA-6"-12" swing-piston style
AXA-6"-12" swing-wedge style
BXA-10"-15" swing-piston style
BXA-10"-15" swing-wedge style
CXA-13"-18" swing-piston style
CXA-13"-18" swing-wedge style

I put a BB AXA on my 12X37 and it fits and works very well, so I'd say 'yes' to the size question.

I put an accusize AXA wedge style in my old 11x3x but the tool holder would not go down low enough to be at centre height. I had to mill off the bottom of the tool holders. There's a thread in here on that topic you may recall. Turned out to be no problem. The accusize site had fairly detailed dimensions on the axa post and tool holder. Could look at that to check the fit...

Yeah, I remember it now. Found it too:

This comment is going to be helpful for sizing:

@Janger , What is the distance from the center of your tool post to the edge of the compound on the 11X3x? (Doesn't have to be precise, just a rough measurement would be helpful for me)

I suspect my lathe will have the same issue, potentially even more extreme though.

This is the setup you went with?

@Jwest7788 yes that is the accusize one I settled on. It was a huge improvement. I did sell that lathe - my new lathe has a BXA. The old lathe came originally with a four position rotating tool post. It was quite large - probably 4" or so in width. That means about 2" or 2.25" from the centre to the edge of the compound. Bigger than the axa post.

The kit with the 5 tool holders I found was not as good as I expected. The boring bar tool holder was too large for any boring bars I owned and the knurler is the push type not the pinch type - I found it hard to use. Maybe select which tool holders you want - I'd rather have more regular holders.

I also suspect people upgrading their tool post will be going from lantern or four sided to Qctp so it might be hard to find one used. The next upgrade is the aloris style and holy crap those are expensive. Maybe @kylemp though if anybody.

Thanks John.

I agree now that I am actually thinking about it, pretty much guaranteed to be easiest to just buy one, haha. None-the-less, this has been helpful for me.

What's the difference between the 101 and 202? (Turning & Facing VS Boring, Turning & Facing)

You're probably right, it's probably easiest to just buy the post, and hand pick the holders. My carbide insert cut-off tool wouldnt fit in one of these anyways, and I have a knurler, so that's 2/5 wasted already.

Thanks for your help and input. :)

@JW,

I have an used AXA piston type QCTP set that I could sell you. Send me a pm for details/questions.

Here is a pic of the set (one holder has the height adjust missing)

And another view

Included are regular holders (one is a -101, the other a -102), parting tool holder, knurling tool/regular tool holder, boring bar holder, MT3 tooling holder, and the QCTP.

The difference between a xxx -101 and a xxx -102 holder is the -102 holder has a V groove in the bottom to hold round tooling.

For comparison, here is a pic of the three size tool posts: AXA, BXA, and CXA (r to l)
