Vevor 8.3x29.5 lathe

Hello,

Anyone in Calgary have one of these?

If so I would be interested in speaking with you about your experience with it and potentially seeing it if possible.

Please pm me if you have one and are willing to chat.

Thanks.

You mean one of these?

Seems a more reasonable starting size than the 7x14. I think they are relatively new addition to vevor.

But they have a few downsides that I can tell. an under powered motor and change gears. Plus the standard roughness around the edges.

I’m generally satisfied with the stuff I’ve bought from Vevor, but I’d be hesitant on this beast. It weighs 174 lbs with an overall length of 47”. Not much meat there. For comparison, a 4ft chunk of 6.63” o.d. x 0.28” wall steel pipe weighs 75 lbs, and my 10”x18” Busy Bee lathe weighs about 450 lbs.

I’m saying this without looking at the actual lathe. My guess is it’s going to be in the same class of rigidity as an Atlas 618, perfectly fine within it’s capabilities but not going to stand up to heavy usage or rough handling.

Thanks for your reply.

A Local guy on Facebook near me has one still in the crate.

Going to see it tomorrow and power it up.

I am not expecting much.

Your 10x18 sounds like the BL2227 gear head lathe I stupidly sold a few years ago when I moved.

If this vevor is what I am expecting it to be I am thinking of getting the same one again as it’s on sale at busy be right now renamed to the cx708.

Were it me I'd pass on the Vevor. While I've had good luck with my Vevor purchases, I have read some horror stories about Vevor lathes. And there's zero after-sales service.
