UPS gripe

I ordered some insert samples from TechMet. Zero cost, free samples.
They shipped via UPS on Jan 27. Left Redmond WA on Feb 3.
They have still not arrived.
A week ago UPS told me they were being held by US Customs. I doubted that as US Customs doesn't inspect outbound packages.
Yesterday they told me that it was held up in Vancouver because of severe weather. I actually laughed.
In seven days, it will be a month since it was shipped.
I don't ever expect to see the samples.

Let TechMet know their choice of shipping companies suck.

I wonder what kind of story they will get if they have UPS trace from their end.

Good idea.
I'm going to call UPS again this afternoon. Because I need a good laugh.

I refused a UPS shipment between Christmas and New Years.
Ordered something from Italy. Item was $20.50, shipping 'Registered Mail' was $24.12.

Got a UPS 'Payment Due at Delivery' notice, for $47.40. Package is still in Italy.

Called, eventually got through to someone. Asked for a breakdown of that cost. After a bunch of wrangling, 'We'll email it to you'.
Why are they billing me when the item's still in Italy? 'We've prepaid the costs for you.'

Get an email two days later. 'We've mailed you the Import Shipment Detail. Oh, and we're billing you for providing it.'

Shipment arrives, and I turn it away.

Import Shipment Detail arrives a few days later.

'PGA Processing Fee', $16.95
'Disbursement Fee', $11.65
'COD/Online Fee', $6.00

Duty? $0.

Oh. And they assumed the original $20.50+$24.12 was USD (it wasn't), and converted that to $63.83 Canadian.

Anyone know what the original $24.12 for shipping covers??

Oh they'll get them to you..........with a $67 brokerage fee.

Got a quote from the blue drywall trucks in town, $3500 ish. Pick it up, do the job and when I'm getting ready to return the unused I notice a $15 administration fee, I call BS, give it back and they refuse. Nor could they explain what the fee was for. So as to avoid embarrassing Kenroc Building Materials, I'll not mention the name of the company I'm referring to.

My favorite two examples of tracking notifications:

You package is Out for Delivery

10 minutes later: Your package has been delayed (or a number of similar statements)

Next day: Your package is out for delivery

This has happened a number of times; I figure it means that it was scanned onto the truck, but after the truck left they found it on the dock.

Package has arrived in Middletown and is scheduled for delivery tomorrow (local UPS Depot, about 6 miles from my house)

Next morning: Awaiting clearance information from shipper (both times this happened the shipper was McMaster in NJ - pretty sure no customs clearance required). When I called McMaster, they shipped a replacement and told me to keep the original if it ever showed up.

Again, I think they misplaced it and needed some reason for the delay.

These excuses remind me of what American Airlines did back in the early 90’s: if they had a flight that was running late, they cancelled it - a late departure counted against them, but a cancellation didn’t. At the time I was commuting to Savannah, GA each week and on Friday I had a choice of US Air or American; US Air was more convenient, and if they had a problem I could catch American flight that left an hour later (both were the last flight of day, so no backup for the American flight).

UPS - someone has to pay alot of $$$ if they can pay their drivers $145 to $172K US a year between pay and benefits (but with health care being what it is in the US that may be like 50% of the #!)

I long ago swore off UPS due to their criminal brokerage fee. Someone else got angry about it too and is a lawyer and sued them over it.

I’ve got enough lawyer in me to totally take them to task for this BS

I decided to file a claim yesterday.
Woke up this morning to see this.

Which is supposedly what happened at the beginning of the month.

Honestly I’m surprised these clowns are still in business given that their systems seem to be in shambles.

I refuse to use ups, I got burnt more then once by them. It’s a crime they can charge more than an item is worth with fees. Worse they do not declare those fees when you use their online systems. FedEx is next with the bs. Then dhl. One company I worked for used a private broker which saved us a ton of money from the shipping companies. The lady I dealt with told me they are constantly fighting ups, fedex over fees. They are a broker there should be no fees. It’s part of the business model and they make a lot of money off it. Got 10 times worse with Covid.

UPS use to scribble out my address and write in a fake address and say "Returned to depot, undeliverable" and then UPS would phone the number on my package and ask me to come to Edmonton, 100km away to pick it up.
I have heard this from some rural people. they get Amazon packages but ups, fedex it’s down to if the driver wants to come out or not. If not they do bs like that. Can par I had to go to there depot 3 times to finally get my parcel that was out for delivery, returned to depot, undeliverable. We lived on a main street. Like wtf. And these shippers wonder why people are using Amazon or smaller private firms for orders.
