Updating one of our rolling mills

The last two days I have been changing out the chocks and rolls for properly designed version. The original was set up for grease and they were converted to recirculating oil. The oil was not moving all around and this caused poor seal life. The rolls are heated to 538F and occasionally 640F, naturally even Viton will not last long without some cooling.
The new chocks are internally designed for oil circulation. This will cool the seals better. We also designed slip rings that have an air space under the seal area. This should reduce the amount of heat reaching the seals as well. Lastly we had the rolling surface reduced in width for 6” to 5.7” which allows an air gap between the side of the roll and the face of the seal. Hopefully we will see a few degrees of temperature reduction at the seal!
I still have to finish modifying 4 of the oil lines and reinstall the heaters in the rolls on Tuesday.

Specialty solder/braze materials. Usually stuff that has Bismuth, Germanium or other exotic expensive metals in the alloy.
