Turret mill

Meh I looked at it.

I bid on it but did not feel I want to go for more.

The machine has a two speed 380v motor - so replacing it is out of question. It should run fine at 440v at 60Hz.

DRO is broken.

I considered fixing it a bit and trying to sell for $2000 with maybe initial list of 2500. It would be a hard sell given the voltage. I have single phase transformer needed but not 3ph one.

Just curious. Is a 380V motor of that era & bolt pattern miles more difficult to retrofit a suitable power 3-phase motor for retrofit? Need to add VFD of course, but I mean just the motor aspect itself? ps - the blue handle makes me very suspicious LOL

That motor has to be replaceable with a 220/440v 3 phase motor, no?

I wont be surprised to see it listed on Chris Wood's (The Calgary Flipper) FB Marketplace very soon...

I agree. Not really that hard to make a motor adapter plate. In fact even possible to make a double plate that positions the business end of the motor in the same place. Biggest issue is often the length and diameter of the motor shaft.

No. Its a TWO SPEED motor not two voltage motor.

It switches from being a two pole to four pole motor and has two speed ranges - in EU its 1200 and 2500 rpm.

Its similar concept to Swidish drill press.

So next to impossible to replace apples for apples.

Come to think of it I should have replaced with single speed 1700 RPM motor and cut half of the speeds off - and then offer a VFD to get the other speeds.... BUT many people would see this solution a bit of a Frankenstein mill.

The frame is also not very popular - 100L - so yeah adapter plate and stuff...

Rest of the mill was not in so good of a shape as well - it would be just great for someone that uses EU stuff and already has European connectors - the member where we have meetings every year - he has Euro plugs and the mill came with Euro plug.

Oh and a switch from two speed to one speed motor and different voltage means almost certainly all electrical needs to be replaced or at least modified. Lots and lots of work. Its a project!

Chris may try to flip it but it will be hard - he is NOT into fixing or modifying machines.

A single speed 2500-3000 rpm 3 phase with a VFD cant replace this? It seems that other speed changes are done via belt?
