Thomas Skinner ?

Years ago when they were on Main Street I would buy Hazet tools for my VW Rabbit at very good price. They brought in new feed rods and nuts for my RF-45 for me, but I haven't had much dealing with them. KBC is both closer and a easier drive. How are they to deal with now?

I buy things from TS on occasion. They use to have a great online catalog with pricing so it was easy to put in a PN & get instant reference. Unfortunately seems like they have been under web construction since pre-Covid so there's that. So you have to call or email which is a bit more effort I find & they take your order or send you a quote. The reps are knowledgeable & they have access to comparable brands. I use to have to drive to location to get pickup but I have a new angle. I made an account (free) which also invokes a further price discount. And I have an address at local UPS store where someone can sign via courier drop-off as opposed to residential address where you may not be home and/or outside courier delivery zone. Over some amount TS ships free inside city, otherwise its the typical courier fee. The UPS address of course costs but it has more than paid in convenience for me on multiple fronts.

KBC used to be my go-to place but pretty nil as of late. The new min shipping cost mode a few years back was inconvenient for small $ orders but I understand the realities of business. Carbon tax has a way of kicking everyone in the groin. But lately I have been comparing identical items to Travers who it seemed was always equal or higher. Maybe coincidental to what I'm looking at but the tables turned, KBC has been higher & sometimes significantly so. They will cost match but that takes effort. Travers has also improved their shipping, basically weight based formula but works out more reasonable on smaller items. All the stuff you see from USA side magically appears in Canada without you messing with customs. I had one glitch on the sale flyer few weeks ago where it mixed USD with CDN on the invoice. The rep was very pleasant & thankful I pointed this out - software glitch that is hopefully now rectified. The bottom line as usual is compare, compare.

I drive a diesel Dodge p/u. When oil prices were $85 USD, pump prices were $1.22 , Oil is still $85 USD a barrel and pump prices are now $1.62. Carbon tax is 3cents a liter. I think the oil companies are working towards a very green economy. chuckle.

I have US mailing address just across the line. But between American firms shipping prices, pickup fees and currency exchange , KBC prices are competitive for their more inexpensive lines. Kinda sad.
