Is everybody adding one of these Wazer desktop waterjets to their 2020 Christmas list? Or maybe they are waiting for the affordable desktop laser jet that will cut 3/8 steel to come out?

Several Regions have held meetups already, but others are being planned or are evaluating the interest. The Ontario GTA West area meetup is planned for Saturday April 26th at Greasemonkeys shop in Aylmer Ontario. If you are interested and haven’t signed up yet, click here! Arbutus has also explored interest in a Fraser Valley meetup but it seems members either missed his thread or had other plans. Let him know if you are interested in a meetup later in the year by posting here! Slowpoke is trying to pull together an Ottawa area meetup later this summer. No date has been selected yet, so let him know if you are interested here! We are not aware of any other meetups being planned this year. If you are interested in doing something in your area, let everyone know and make it happen! Meetups are a great way to make new machining friends and get hands on help in your area. It looks like it would be way better to find a local shop with a real waterjet and just pay to have parts cut for you. The Wazer uses a 4900 psi water jet (about 1/10th the pressure for a real waterjet) so the abrasive use is way higher and the cut speed is way slower than a real waterjet .
In looking through the specs for the Wazer they include some examples of things they have made. To make a bicycle belt drive system from aluminium - two sprockets from 0.19" and a spacer and coupler from 0.065" took almost 3 hours and used 55 lb of garnet abrasive. They figure that will cost $85 in consumables (cheaper if you buy abrasive by the tonne). Seems like the high cost of consumables makes is even less attractive.
