The Equivalent North American Meaning of a Bare Fit

Hi All,

LBSC in the construction article on the boiler blowdown valves I am making uses the term "a bare fit" several times in the text. Does this mean a close fit or...? Is this an English/Scottish term for all of you having a UK background?

I'd ignore it; it's a hang over from the days when most people didn't have access to micrometers but relied on plain calipers and rules. Just make it to size, or maybe a thou or two smaller if the part needs to fit in a hole.
