I had been thinking that I needed more hold down clamps and last weekend I was perusing Kijiji when some machine shop related goodies turned up about an hour from here. When I got there I found this:
No missing pieces and a real metal rack!
And this:
I’ve never seen a protractor on a 24” scale but there it is. The scale is marked Starrett #4 but nothing on the protractor but it’s interesting because the base is about twice as wide as the typical one you see on a 12” scale so maybe it’s a matched set.
It’s well made, maybe it’s Starrett but maybe it’s mix & match because the scale nut isn’t the typical Starrett shape, maybe Brown & Sharpe, Goodell Pratt or Union Tool? Interestingly the level vial housing is formed sheet metal, not cast. Anybody recognize it?
The other items of the “set” are obscure too, one rule is marked TWIX and the other name isn’t readable but it's metric/inch so probably Canadian? That’s fine, I can use the scale on the double square I just finished re-vialing.
The fly cutters will complement the other set I have but I don’t know what I’ll do with all the ½” square nut wrenches, LOL! Anyone need some? Maybe trade me for a comparable 11/16 hex wrench for my Standard Modern?
I have no need (now) for Morse taper wedges either but they came with the deal. And a lantern rocker to top it off, good since neither of mine came with one, LOL!
The J & S Tool Co. Inc. fixture clamps are an interesting bonus, I’ve never seen anything like them:
The last thing looks sort of like a quick change insert holder, they’re marked J. E. Wood W-504 and W-505 but nothing comes up in Google.
Any ideas? Maybe a brake lathe accessory?
All in all, a nice drive in the country on a bright spring day and a nice haul of tooling.
