After testing the Colchester against the Standard Modern it looks like the Colchester won the day, no room for 2 lathes.
Standard Modern 10" Utilathe (actually 10 3/4" swing) D1-3 spindle mount, tailstock MT3
I have a little more than $2,000 into the restoration, the labour is free of course, but it was a fun build.
Completely disassembled, cleaned, painted.
All new bearings, (7 in total I think) 2 new gears, new bronze crossslide nut, all new bushings, gaskets, seals and drive belt.
All new electricals, wires and switches.
Rebuilt 1hp, PH1 motor, new bearings, 1750 rpm
Comes with a new Aloris type quick change tool post, 6 pc set.
1 6" three jaw chuck with D1-3 backing,
1 8" four jaw chuck, the 4 jaw has no backing attached at the moment but comes with a separate D1-3 mount that may work.
Comes with a cast iron stand with 4 leveling feet.
Also comes with about half of what is needed for a taper attachment.
Everything works and is ready to go, a nice lathe to use.
The complete rebuild thread is here with photos showing the whole process, https://canadianhobbymetalworkers.com/threads/rebuilding-a-10-standard-modern-utilathe.13004/
Price, $2,000
I won't be advertising on kijiji or FB for a week in case anyone here wants it first.
