Supplies Sourcing a special Tap and Die in Canada

Morning guys.

Before we start, I am still learning single point threading, and it just won’t fit into my workflow right now.

I use a 13x0.8mm Triple start tap and die for most of my pen models. They are used for the cap to body thread, to get a secure fit with minimal turns to remove.
Currently, these get sourced from TapCo, in the US, through group buys on another forum I belong to. These buys only happen every 2-3 years. There is one on right now. The cost of one set is $589USD, but group buying 12 sets put the price at $208USD. That’s about $299CAD. Plus, possibly, a 25% tariff.

These taps are a critical aspect of my business, so I have built in the $300 cost to my pricing model, so that’s not a problem. But the Tariff increase hurts and I would really prefer to buy Canadian. I am wondering if there is a source in Canada (like TapCo), for special taps?

I don't know if these guys can help you, but they have made some specialty taps for me before and I was really please with them.

Well, I just got off the phone with Taylor.
Very friendly, unfortunately though, they can’t deal directly with me. I have to go through one of their distributors. Luckily, Levac is one, and we have a shop in town. So I guess I’ll have to go chat with them. I have a sneaking suspicion though, that it is going to be well out of my budget.
I’ll let you know.

You probably hunted high & low. This works out to 400CAD excluding vat which would apply, from UK
