I have more equipment than space in my garage so i have decided to let my nice little horizontal mill go. It runs on 220v single phase and has a 4kw vfd allowing for infinite adjustment of spindle speed. The geared head has 6 spindle speeds and the feed rate has 18 speeds. Machine has mechanical power feed and comes with the horizontal milling arbour. Spindle is mt3

I'm sort of ignorant about milling machines yet... can you briefly tell me advantages or disadvantages of a horizontal milling machine compared to a vertical machine?

The main advantages are when drilling large holes the chip evacuation is greatly improved. Also milling cutters are able to be supported from both ends. This allows for slab mills and gang milling. Some milling operations must be done on a horizontal mill due to the length of the part. The only disadvantage i can think of is it is harder to see what you are cutting.

I wish I had the money!

I too would like a horizontal mill -- just because
